vtec ls...dont worry not what you think...
is it worth vtec-ing an ls? i hear all kinds of things like they smoke like a chimney, cost more than a gsr engine, not reliable, they leak, and so on...so are they worth it and guys with ls/vtecs please share your experience with me...
You must know some people that are either bad engine builders, or have seen setups by bad engine builders. They are out there...
i dont understand where the myths of ls/b20vtecs are unreliable, smoke like a chimney etc. my b20 vtec has been built since last may and it runs strong every day. not one problem what so ever. a friend of mine has got a 214 whp b20vtec in his eg that he built in 200 and it runs just as strong as any other motor. if its built right, it will run right. if its built like ****, it will run like ****. and same goes for non-frankenstein engines. if u hire a retard to build ur b16, ls, or gsr its gonna run like a retard built it

How is that a myth? Ive seen plenty of lsvtecs smoke and break down at the track... i see a different one every weekend. Yea they are probably retards building them and they just slap a stock head on a stock block and call it a day.... but they are still "ls vtects" and they still run like **** and smoke and break down left and right...

As many people already said, LS/VTEC can be reliable or not based on how careful and precise and thorough the build was.
If you just put parts together your **** will break. But if you are careful and know what you are doing, then your **** will be good.
I do have to say though that an LS/VTEC will not be AS reliable as a straight-from-the-factory motor; however that is opinion-based.
Good luck! It's gonna be expensive if you want to do it right!

Exactly what I thought as well. OP, fuc#en search.

i think a lot of this comes from the fact that ppl only talk about motors when they blow up.... i mean how many threads are there of "my lsvtec runs fine just thought i would let you all know" vs "all of my friends have lsvtecs that smoke and break down"
if you want stock reliability then keep your motor stock. if you want your built motor to run good then build it right...... its a simple concept
and for the last 6 yrs my stock block lsvtec ran perfectly fine.
now its getting built up though
