so ive been told that my sincro's are goin bad in my trany because my second gear keeps popping out or even carefully easing it into second will grind gears MOST of the time, would it be best to get a rebuilt trany, used trany, rebuild mine at a shop, or just take it out take off the top and put in the new sincros myself with my friend who is a Mech. anyway?
please help anything is useful

you may as well rebuild the whole thing while you're in there. Cheapest solution is probably a low milage used tranny, as the synchros alone are pretty expensive, not withstanding the other necessary parts.
I'd go looking for a low mileage used tranny. The newer the better because the 01 and 02's seem to have the most problems with their trannys so I'd look for an 04 or 05 if possible.

Jeez.. I sold my old D17 transmission, back in the day, for 500. Looks like he got a good deal.

If a D17 transmission costs $1000 you're not looking hard enough. They can be found for $300, probably less if you look around enough.
I wouldnt rebuild a transmission unless you are absolutely sure you can nail all the clearances and tolerances. There's no room for error, probably even less forgivness than building a motor because of all the moving stuff inside.

if your mech friend knows what he is doing i would say rebuilding the tranny would be the cheapest option. also get a shop manual for the car, that will tell you all of the specs on rebuilding the transmission.
if you do decide to rebuild the tranny yourself, make sure you replace all of the seals inside the tranny, this will save you a headache later down the road.
