Default leveling out a warped flange???

How thin can you go as far as milling down the header flange??? My sparks racing manifold was welded and braced and the dummies that did the job added to much heat to too long of a time period. 2 studs broke off due to warpage. I havn't lost any psi according to my boost gauge I just want to get it fixed. The good thing about the manifold is that it has a lip on the actual header flange so i might be able to save it. the lip is about 1/8 inch thick then you actually have the header flange itself.

The reason the manifold cracked in the 1st place was due to my broken tranny mount(which is fixed now). Im trying to do away with buying a new manifold for now.

thanx

you can take it to a machine shop to have them mill it down, or you can try putting it on a belt sander to get it flat.

Hopefully it's 1/2" now, it's not mentioned in your post.
You could go down to 7/16 or maybe even 3/8. I know some guys use 3/8" stuff, so maybe.
I don't do many turbo manifolds, mostly n/a headers, so I'm not the definitive source here. I'm sure the other guys will chime in.
Good luck, hopefully you have a good machinist.

They don't have to take it to the next size down, this isn't like rethreading holes. They set it up on a mill with a big flycutter, then take off enough material so that its flat, 1/64th or 1/4th or whatever.

I wouldn't go thinner than 3/8".
My log mani was all warped, almost 1/8", and luckily it was a 1/2" flange. They hooked it up to the head resurfacer, and took it down to 3/8", and its perfect.

Put it on the surface grinder and be done with it , only take off what you need.
Alternative is to put make a jig, put in the heat treat oven and get it toasty hot while bolted to the jig and it should even its self out then let it cool slowly

a house oven wont cut it, lol.

youd probably be fine as thin as 1/4" if it even needed it that much.

you can also bolt it up, run the motor hard, and then retorque it down, which could possibly fix it. do this a few times.

1/4 inch...woww!!!! Well I guess thats some good news. I beleive on my older prelude the turbo flange warped on it after getting it resurfaced to about 1/8. At the time I knew nothing about the material and durability of a manifold.

It normally takes a a minute > and will get the job done but i would recommend a better more accurate method, im just gettho so i use the chopsaw and have had success. For the amount of hassle a non sealing issue causes on a turbo car i would take it to a machine shop and get it cut then you know its good
