1998 Accord EX Auto - NO SPEEDOMETER??
Is there a way to test the VSS before buying a new one? I thought I saw somewhere that it can be tested with a volt meter. Anyone hear of this before? I wanna test it before assuming it's the ECU, because I've already swapped out the speedo cluster with another working speedo cluster I had and it's not that. So my guess is that it's the VSS.
Any tips would be helpful.
Thanks!

I've read on here to try using the Cruise Control. If it works, the VSS should be ok and the problem will be with the speedometer itself. My understanding is that they are on two separate circuits, both using the VSS, not one feeding the other.
The cruise control does not work.... And I bought a new cluster thinking it was the cluster and it wasn't - same results...
If the cruise, speedo, and tach are dead it is the VSS. There are three wires going to the VSS. One should be ground, one should be 5v and would should fluctuate voltage up and down as you spin a wheel that is jacked up off the ground.

But the tach works tho... So if the tach works but the cruise and speedo do not, could it be my ECU?

When you put in the new speedo cluster did you make sure the 4 back bolts were very tight? And that all harnesses will plugged back in i.e. dimmer, hazards, cruise?

Absolutely...
Grr, I am so confused... Someone mentioned ECU but I was unsure because a supposed Honda tech who works at the local Honda dealership said that if anything was wrong with my ECU at all, tht the car wouldn't run...? I am beginning to doubt that if the symptoms of a dead VSS doesn't add up...

Right-o. Is there a CEL with VSS code?

CEL on?
Here is what is wierd:
No cruise, no speedo and the only CEL code it's throwing is the o2 sensor that I know I needed to replace prior to this issue. That's it....

I am currently having the same problem.
I just replaced the VSS and this did not fix it
I just replaced the Speedometer gauge still doesn't work.
I unplug the battery for a few the check engine light goes away but when driving the Speedometer does not move and the check engine light comes right back on.
Not sure what else to change this is a 1998 Honda Accord EX.
Any other suggestions?
