Might be the VSS. I have the same problem, replaced the VSS with no luck. I found that the signal from the VSS also runs the cruise control. If your speedometer is not working but your cruise control is then its your cluster.
Another way to check to see if its your cluster is to press the trip odometer reset in and let your finger snap off of it to let it recoil. Sometimes the impact will jar the speedo back into working temporarily. This would prove you've got a speedo cluster problem rather than a VSS problem.
Good luck.

Re: instrument cluster problems (killerformula)
i had this problem, many people say it is the VSS, but mine was the cluster itself. Changed clusters and everything works great now. good excuse to get a nice cluster too, SiR or something

Sol, could you let us know your resource for getting a cluster? Many factory replacement models are hundreds of dollars. Ebay has a slew of used clusters, but given that this problem is so common I'd rather not buy one from ebay. Suggestions?

you cant really get one and be 100% sure that it is fine, but a just look at how many miles it has on it. If it has 500,xxx miles on it, it would be safe to assume that you should avoid that one. I actually got mine on EGAY, just look for a reputable seller. Alot of people get JDM ones, but that is dumb IMHO, who wants to read KPH all the time? mine is UKDM, and it is actually in MPH, and it goes to like 150mph, instead of like 120mph, which is purely for looks, but i think it is cool. But just watch for ones with low mileage. Go to a junk yard, Egay, even here on HT. goodluck
