i have a 89 civic with a b16a swap. my check engine light just started going on today and it goes on and off. bright one minute then dim then next. i was in rush hour traffic, i don't know if that helps but does anyone know what it could mean?

check what code it is. that would help us a lot.

 

Count the flashes coming from the ECU and let us know.

and how? the light stays on awhile then goes off for awhile then again.... is that what you mean?

 

Pull back the carpeting on the passenger side...underneath the dash. You'll see a little window. Turn the key on one click, then look in that little window. There is a light in there that flashes.

 

a long flash = 10. a short flash = 1.

 

i guess if you were talking about the flash on the dashboard then it's a 10

 

on ur ecu under the passenger crapet.

 

I'm telling you man....pull the carpet back and look. It has nothing to do with the check engine light right now...the ECU is the "computer". It will normally tell you what is wrong with your car. Pull the carpet back and find the window and do what I said before.

 

and if its 10, than its i.a.t=intake air temp sensor.

 

i didn't see any light coming from underneath the dash when i pulled the carpet out

 

do you know what ur ecu looks like? its boxy and gold. its has a triangled window so u can c the l.e.d light flashing codes....kinda like mors code. a long flash =10 than every quick flash =1...than u add them up and u will get the code,than we can help you budd...good luck,its okay if u dont know alot about cars. were here to help one another.

 

i remember the actual ecu as a box with chips in it that connects underneath the dash. don't remember a window...
