no mil w/ vtec unplugged--no change in fuel % during vtec--HELP!
hey everyone,
i have a strange problem and don't know what to do next. My vtec is very anemic and extra loud, so i ran the car w/ a scantool plugged in. There is no extra fuel added during vtec which i don't understand as there is no check engine light. I unplugged the solenoid altogether and noticed the CEL still doesn't come on even when i run the car into vtec range, though it will still rev all the way up to 7k w/o vtec. Once had a V-AFC installed but had removed it before this occurred. In diagnosing this issue, i have changed all ignition components including coil and checked timing to be perfect.
Any advice on what to try next? Thanks in advance

I'm guessing this is an obd2 prelude because you're in the prelude forum and you mentioned a scantool? Does the CEL ever come on? It should come on then go off when you turn on the ignition so you know the bulb is working. You should get a CEL with the solenoid unplugged, so I would start there. My guess would be a wiring issue related to the earlier vafc install.
sorry for not including this earlier, but yes its a 1997 sh. the cel does test when i turn the key, but it goes off and i still have no codes to check. i figured i should get a code, i guess i'll have to try another ecu or go to honda.
thanks for reply

have u checked to see if they possilbly did somethign to the wirign at the ecu and is tricking the ecu to thinking that the solenoid is present? like a resistor or some crap.
i suggest this only because u said it used to ahve a vafc installed, and who knows how some people will install vafcs nowadays, hehe

no sorry, i did the wiring myself per the updated v-afc instructions that utilized the vtm signal wire. when i took it out, i soldered the wires back together for a firm connection and used shrink tube to make it all clean.
my motor has over 160k mileage on it but i wanna get this fixed as i'm considering rebuilding the engine as a project. i doubt it would be worth it but i'm gonna take it to honda to have them plug the ecu in to make sure the sensors are putting out the right signal and the ecu has the right fuel maps in it. strangest problem i've ever encountered, but any additional advice would be appreciated
