If the valves are way out of spec then it will run like **** as compression wont be right. If there ticking its time to adjust, if there no then let them be.

it's unlikely they need adjustment unless you can noticeably hear the ticking.

If anything it's hella easy just to check them, won't hurt.

Most motors it's supposed to be done every 15-30K. Usually ppl have problems with loose valves, which are noticable of course by the ticking.

However it's also possible to have the opposite problem with tight impacted valves; this happens from a mis-adjustment or from age/neglect.

While it's not common to have valves tighten up, it is a problem with some motors. CRV b20's were notorious for this when I was doing services. A lot of times the lower end-of-spec feeler gauge would not even begin to slide in there....The nasty thing with over-tight valves is that you are not tipped off by any ticking noise, it usually becomes a driveability or idle issue.

The only car I've owned where this happened was an EG w/ a z6. I was having odd warm idle problems where the car would stutter and almost stall when dropping revs (rolling up to a stop sign for example) After several days of screwing with the usual suspects, I was horrified to finally find my valves had been adjusted by the previous owner WAY too tight.

Adjust them at least every 30K
