Default Overheating!!!

seems like i have bad luck with my car, i have a 1993 honda accord EX,4 door, and when the engine warms up while i am driving it is fine but when i stop and it is idle the tempature rises almost to the point to where it might overheat but when i accelerate the tempature falls back down. I really don't know what is going on.

First thing you could do is check for cooling fan operation; when the car is moving there is air flow thru the radiator, but when you are stopped and the cooling fans Do Not run there is no air flow thru the radiator.

what you are describing sounds like exactly what happens when your fan isnt working. i would check that first. if the fan is operational then check all the other stuff stated above:

coolant level
air in the system
leaks
thermostat
waterpump

and if everything checks out try giving your cooling system a good flush and refill. if that doesnt help either then most likely your raidator needs replacing or there is something blocking airflow to your radiator.

put the fan directly to battery voltage to test it. Most likely is a toasted relay. when you turn your AC does the other fan come on?

Hi. Look my car is doing something similar. I drive around town and I am fine, but when I go out of town and do long stretches on the highway, the temp gauge goes up after I have been driving a while. Then once I stop at a light or something, it goes all the way up, then once I accelerate, it drops back down for a while. What the F?

Yeah Yeu, to my knowledge it does, I'll have to play with it more later, I think sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesnt.

Is the relay on the fan itself or further up the wire?

I believe the relays are either

at the cross memeber or fender area. I am not sure

take a look here (off of a 5th gen car)
