well i picked up a evo 8 turbo today at the pomona swapmeet for 20 bucks the guy said that the turbine bearing needs too be replaced because the shaft has play but i've heard that there supposed too have some play it does move up and down and side too side but it rub on the housing or anything and if it is messed up do you think it would be worth it too rebuild it? any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

 

Just buy an entire turbo rebuild kit. They usually run $60-$90.

Shaft play is never good, you just need to rebuild it

 

 

you sir got a useless turbo and a fucked up one at that, btw if the shaft play is so excssive that it touches the housings, the center bearings are bad, and im betting that the center rod is worn to **** cuasing the bearing to run up against the exhaust blade, ******* up and bending exhaust blades, not to mention the evo 8 turbo is not something you want to be using in a civic turbo kit, some thing about scrouging and boost cutoff that i heard about, yea man you got jackeed on that turbo none the less tear it apart and learn some stuff about turbos

its very simple if you look at it on a table, youll need a 10, 12 and a 8 mm socket and wrench set, a piler set and most of all you'll need a snap ring plier set, and a screw driver congrats that compressor housing is a worse bitch than rosie odoneal on her period,

and btw turbo rebuild kits arent going to help you in this case

wtf would i do in your case? swap center sections with a diffrent turbo or a centre section bearing replacment kit, not cheap from mitsubishi and i wouldnt trust any other ebay bullshit for this ou expletive up here ou expletive up eveywhere,

ps youll need the turbo balances, ps be carful on that compressor housing side bolt oh and the exhuast fins DON"t come off of the rod, so dont try, compressor side does, and if that rods fucked go get another bad turbo and swap it over

you do know that turbos need to be balanced right? if you want to be ghettho which i recomend you do not, scribe marks on the exhaust housing and compressor fins with a paint so you get some what close to alined, otherwise at 20k rpm plus a turbo gets out of balnce and is DEADLY

 

first off the fins don't rub on the housing that was a type o sorry and second why would'nt the turbo work for a honda application is there something different about this turbo that others don't have? and even if the turbo is junk i don't really see it as a waste of money cause i would rather spend 20 bucks and learn knowledge that i'll keep with me my whole life but thanks for your input very helpful

 

actaully i was going to post more info to help you out but your kind of an *** and thanks for the sarcasm kid, hey go rebuild the turbo with ebay tastic gaskets you know what goes bad when a turbo burns oil? i bet not and ill tell you whne you say i dropped over a grand in my ******* mitsu turbo and it burns oil in like 5 days

 

btw just to get the turbo into your engine ba, your looking at a custom manifold, with how much you know about turbos tells me you wouldnt have the brain power to go get a evo 8 aftermarket tube manifold cut the flanges off that and piping off that and make yourself a d16z6or b series manifold,

then the rest of a turbo kit which i doubt you can do, its alot of work man, i told you,

next evo 8 turbos are set up for a motor with a diffrent power band than yours, also heard that it may not be usable due to a scoruage effect to get the turbo spooling faster
but thats what ive heard from my buddies shop down the road

your also trying to rebuild a turbo with ebay parts, and as cheap as possible there is a reson why you got that for 20 bucks it damn sure aint that you goti it for a good deal

go down load a compressor map for the evo 8 turbo check it out

its not a newb build, if you are just diving into it, sell the turbo or shelf it for when you actaully know more than OMGZORZ i GOtZ AN EVO turbo in HERRRRRRRRRRRRR


go down to so cal forumns because yes chino is in socal, and click turbo kit youll find a used one for 1100-2400 depending on well alot of things turbo, qname brand parts and whats included

stay with the REAL neam brand stuffand away from the ebay stuff, or why dont you just bu an XSPOWER kit and see what happens? ill tell you right now what'll happen over boost boost spike you'll find out

to tell you the truth man you really dont know engough about turbos to evne diagnose the problem so i doubt you can rebuild this one, even via the ghetto way


its like learning how an engine works while looking at one that was horribly bad

ie fed up crankshaf, youd think the crankshaft is ALWAYS supposed to look like that

 

i never said that it has horrible shaft play and i never said "I" was going too rebuild it cause your right i don't know that much about turbo's but that why am here right
