Default Just for fun

Hi guys, I was hoping I could get some "tech" info from this forum. This idea is completely just for kicks and not a serious performance mod:

My friend has an air compressor for filling up tires and whatnot and it is cordless. We were wondering if i drilled a hold into the side of my (or another car's) air intake and hooked up the compressor so as it is not creating any blockage in the intake would there be a power gain of any kind? Im thinking it will be like a very very lame turbo of the smallest degree. What we wanted to know is, is there any danger of seriously damaging the engine, ie: running to lean, detonation, etc. and is there any way to work around these problems?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help guys. It's definately gonna be an interesting experiment haha

first of all this thread is not what i would call intelligent. whether or not its for ***** and grins.

just plain stupid....

how about instead of looking for dumb answers to a dumb question. you just go ahead and do it.

this thread belongs in GDD

The original post asked for some technical feedback. I couldnt care less what your opinion about the idea is, and that is completely off topic. Anyways if anyone has some knowledge to contribute, it would really be appreciated.

you want a technical answer.....

no....

not enough CFM output to create any amount of PSI.

not to my knowledge. boost is run on cars all the time even though this wont create any.

theres your f-in technical answers.

Thanks for your input man. Im thinking the least it will do is mimic a ram air effect since a lot more air will be pushed into the intake. The compressed air might dissipate/expand by the time it travels into the cylinders so im a bit skeptical of it working like a turbo really.

Let's say that you do get enough cfms to create boost. All that boost will escape through the air filter instead of being forced into the engine.

Try it this way compressor>check valve>air tank>valve>intake.

The reason for this is that the CFM from most electric compressors will not make a diffrence. But, if you fill up a large tank then release a large volume of PSI into the intake manifold you should see a gain.

I run Viar compressors up to 200psi in 5gal tanks all the time. That much air should make a little diffrence.

Diffrent test:
Use your shop compressor at arround 150PSI. take a vacume line off of your intake manifold. With motor at idle in neutral, spray the air in.
