Default Throw out bearing concern...

Just the other day, my buddy's ap1 started having an issue with the clutch. what it feels like is the throw out bearing binding on the shaft, like it's not properly greased. when disengaging the clutch, it feels stiff and rough, then when re-engaging, it feels like it's binding slightly. could this just be an improperly greased shaft, or something else?

cuz we dont know what to say...

first you say...

"Just the other day, my buddy's ap1 started having an issue with the clutch. what it feels like is the throw out bearing binding on the shaft, like it's not properly greased. when disengaging the clutch, it feels stiff and rough, then when re-engaging, it feels like it's binding slightly. could this just be an improperly greased shaft, or something else?"

then looking at your title..

"Throw out bearing concern..."

how about go look... im sure the problem is around that area... could be pilot bearing, throw out bearing, pressure plate, or the clutch itself...

well don't say anything then...it's not like i wasn't planning on looking. i guess it's frowned upon by guys like you to utilize our free brotherhood of honda owners. i just thought that until i have the time to take everything apart, which in the case of the ap1 is not the easiest job in the world, that i might be able to gain a little insight. thanks for caring.

all i was saying is your question kinda confused the posters.. how can you say throw out bearing concern when you assume some other things?

i guess i worded it wrong, i meant an issue with the clutch pedal travel, like it's a rough travel. i drove it again, and i came to the conclusion that it is a poorly greased shaft. guess i'll be pullin the tranny on that beast soon. what sucks, is now his rear end took a poop.

Not frowned upon at all, but you obviously had a good idea of what was possibly going on and you can take off the clutch slave cylinder, the dust boot for it, and take the clutch fork out of place and look around with a flashlight to see if you can see anything wrong.

Good luck with your transmission removal, and watch out for the upper starter bolt.

Frank, don't even bother correcting S@ntos and Jerk's spelling. You'd be busy all day. If you can catch me, though, I'll hook you up with some Mugen bolts.

normal honda transmitions have the throught bearing on the end of the clutch release fork so it travels back and forth with the fork. In a s2k tranny the bearing is in attached in between the clutch disk and pressure plate.

m3 is the bearing on this pic
