removing/sanding think amounts of paint????
Heys, i have a project ef hatch im working that im trying to get paint ready.. the car has seriously been painted 10 times or so and half the the car is coverd in a thick bucket paint . has real thick and nasty drips . its just a mess. i was wondering what my best beat was of getting the car paint ready? should i jsut take a DA sander to it to the metal? or use some sort of striper??
any help would be much apprech. thanks alot
oh also. parts i have started sanding on took down to metal in a spot looks like there is realll slight surface rust under the primer.. its real faint. like if u would have left a bare peice of metal out in the weather for a few days... its light enought to like whip off. but its under the primer so it scares me? is that normal for a lil brownage to be under there??

bumper stripper, it will remove most non oem finishes. be careful not to get it on plastic aka lights, trim, and moldings. let it set for while then pressure wash it and it probably will make a mess.
no, get rid of the surface rust, do it right the first time, or you'll end up with a real bad paint job. Paint, primer, bondo etc. don't like rust too much, and even if they did stick, you'd end up with through rust later.

If you have that many layers of paint on your car, stripping the paint off totally would be your best bet. Remember to use etching primer on your bare metal. And definately make sure all the surface rust is gone.

Take it to a media blaster...If its as bas as you say, that would be your best bet. then have it etch primed, fix your dents, prime it, block it, prime it, block it again, then wetsand.....then paint. Otherwise your **** will be wavy as expletive.
holy ****... ummmm, wow... thats insane... take everything off the car, and have it acid dipped... and e-coated... the last guy that brought me an old shell that was dipped, and e-coated, cast him around $1500
media blast, would be roughly $500-700 id think
