Default bad week - LSD broke :( = Lucky Star Japanese (Toronto) = crooks

just driving from work, stop at the light and hear this bang, next thing I know the RPM climbs but the car is barely moving (similiar to sliping clutch disc), it was a stock Honda Helical type LSD (CTR spec), which cracked, basically the FD side of the LSD (where axle goes in broke)

I never used slicks, never do burnouts, no wheel hop or wheels lifting and dropping

not sure on previous owners abuse (came from JDM land), but it has only seen street driving and about 15 dragway passes and 6k km from my end
the car it came from was all done with hardcore suspension and so on (3-4th gear grinded after the installation, didn't care too much as he assured me that he was going to give me new synchros and hubs (since it was going to be equipped with 4.785 FDR, didn't bother me for time being (since it only happened at 8500rpm +)

now the shop Lucky Star Japanese (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) which gave me 3 months warranty or 10k km is trying to dick me out...he said that its my fault because of racing and spinning tires (this has happened 2 week after the drag event and last tire spin)

after all the parts/motors I kept on buying from those jerks, they screw me over and laugh in my face, just a reminder to watch out for those crooks and never buy from them

if anyone has a simliar story about them, let me know

they can be contacted at 1-416-240-8444 or http://www.luckystarjapanese.com

any opinions, as to causes and/or speculations of failure? or just opinions

Adrian i don't know how you but up with those ******* for so long????

i sent my friend there almost 2 years ago to pick up a motor....
would you believe he paid $9000 for a complete JDM R set up!!!!
talk about being raped a new *******, money wasn't an issue to
my friend though he just wanted the best, and he isn't even into
the scene, he's a midlde aged man who didn't want to get rid of
his 93 Si coupe and wanted just to drop anther motor so he wanted the
best and thats what he thought he got.....wait thats not even the good part....

after he got the car back from install,
i drove it and right away i knew something was
wrong......engine light came on,...car didn't pull like
an R after 6000RPM and it fuel cut off on me at 8000 RPM
so i was like WTF!!!!!!!!!! he was like whats wrong...
i checked out the car and this is what i found....

he had to bring it back because,...
1. the tranny wasn't even an R tranny it was a GSR tranny,
2. shitting external wiring harness job by there bush mechanics,
3. computer was a P72 and not a P73

I wanted to knock Steve's head off and rip that ****** smerk he
always puts on his face....he tried to tell my friend at first that
i probably messed up the car cuz i was racing it? whatever when i
pointed out the **** i found he was like,...that must have been
a mistake......aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh h!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can't believe that ******,...how does he sleep at night...
Adj do you still deal with J.K.??? are they any better, i have
for a little things, but if you ask me i don't think Embrahaim..or whatever
isn't any better,...i wouldn't be surprised it him and steve were in
Kohoots together....LOL

Jeff, what a bastards!!!

they are all the same, at first all good cause they need something (ie. ECU programming or wiring done, after they learn ) they try to screw over people

the difference is that Lucky Star rips people on purpose they know what they are doing (after numerous lesson I showed him all the staff and differences between all the motors, wiring), now they don't need me so they try to screw me over

J.K I think is little better, the guy is just not to educated in knowing the differences and doesn't know anything and what he is selling, one thing is for sure, that they make alot $$$ and don't care about customer service.

and yes you are right they are all the same, if you haven't noticed from all the shops in TO or other cities, all are runned by afghan mojaheds, the same talk the same walk....not sure on their ties but one this is for sure, some one should check into this, since all the money gets pured out of the country (not that I am againts immigrants but as we all seen not to long ago we should watch out for crooks, no matter what colour they are)

That is the very reason that I personally drove to montreal to buy my engine, and why i recomend others buy their engines from Turbo Hyundai, or Dan for that matter!

The guys I dealt with at Japan Auto in montreal were great, they knew their ****, they were Japanese(japanese motors from japanese guys, cant go wrong), and you re allowed to walk around the shop and pick your motor!

I have been to lucky star twice, the second time i was actually considering buying a motor, i was quoted a good deal, probably only because i had cash in hand, and when i asked to be able to walk back and see the motor, i was told no, that they would bring it out for me.

WTF?
I said, what if theres anoher motor back there that i want, that i might see
he goes: tell me what kind, and I'll bring it out!

**** that!
Next day i drove to montreal!

MORAL OF THE STORY: Buy motors from a1jdmengines.com (turbo hyundai)
or dan, and i forget his online name!

thanks Jeff

the thing is that I have been buying from them for past few years making them alot $$$, not only because all my friends bought there but I also used to do him favours....ie. his first website

damn price for LUCKY STAR on a 2nd gen B16A complete package is only $750-900 (their cost, after shipping, duty and so on) for these people, to make $2000-5000 on every honda swaps is just crazy....

the thing is that he knows he can sell LSD trannys for $1500 so why not do it, and screw the people over who have warranty (which doesn't pay anything)

thats all in canadian dollars....the simplest way is to stop buying the honda swaps and prices will go down, like they first used to be (ie. complete 1st gen swap = $750 (thats with everything and in canadian dollars)

its starting to happen to guy with nissans as well the price of SR20DET went from $1400 to $2500 canadian in just over 2 years for simple reason, greed of these people....

lucky star gets , my vote of disapproval

I bought a first gen b16 from Lucky Star about six months ago. After the trouble of driving it back to michigan, we decided to look at the internals of the engine. The head on the engine was covered with the thickest, nastiest sludge I have ever seen and the tranny was broken. Had to drive all the way back to Toronto to swap it for a different motor (wasn't easy getting them to agree with this). The whole transaction was extremely shady and I DO NOT TRUST these guys at all. Soooooo shady.

i was looking for an LS tranny a couple of years back and i went there. they tried to sell me one for 1200. i just laughed in there face and said you must be joking. i've called there acouple of times asking about pricing. they tell you a price on the phone, and when you go there its something different.

the only thing i'd consider buying from them are the black suede JDM recaros they always seem to have.

i've heard about the shops in montreal being good for pricing. i think it something about how thats where all the shipments get docked to.
i wouldnt mind taking a trip to pick up a few things if the price is right.

Owner of Japan Imports in montreal is not japanese, he is from Afghanistan, just thought you should know. I've had good and bad experiences there and other importers.....everyone will screw you over if they can.

indeed i agree, customer service thats what makes or breaks the company.....but lack off, is simply a big no no......need to bring them down, so it doesn't happen to someone you know, especially when you invest your hard earned money into a swap and you get nothing but someone who laughs at you......

lets stop them before they do more harm....spread the word

lucky star is definatly not lucky for the customers

I had the misfortune to witness this sad event. After I cracked the tranny in question open, and opened up the diff, this guy (Steve) just started talking absolute nonsense. Its odd, as he has but a modicum of technical knowledge, but there is no reasoning with him. Theyll rip you off with a smile on their face.

Another curious little observation I made: people go there to get their swaps performed! Thats quite frightening, as I doubt any one of their "mechanics" is a licensed one. Pretty brutal me thinks.

Anyways, thats my eastern block, polak 2 cents (worth a LOT less then 2cents US)

I was shocked when adrian told me about his LSD tranny breaking, but I was not shocked when steve didn't replace it for you. I did however think that he would offer you something else, maybe a deal on another LSD tranny or something since your chiped ecus are all over lucky star and every time I go there all I here is adrian this and adrian that from him.

Every time I've went there I've only dealt with steve, I don't even bother talking with anyone else. I've seen the way they treat certain customers but to me they have always been nice and he's givin me enough deals...but then I think, "hey, adrian was hella cool with steve too and he still ended up getting dicked"...so that alone is enough to stop me from dealing with them.

actually, I have a few stories of my own about that place.

1. he tried to pass off an accord 1.8L ecu for an OBD1 B18B ecu, that didn't get past me however.

2. I bought a full 2nd gen B16A long block which(the deal was) supposed to come with distributor/alternator/all mounts including tranny mount, basically, only short the tranny. what get's shipped to my shop?=2nd gen B16A missing distributor/alternator/all mounts/downpipe and also had a broken TPS.
you can bet I went right back there and got my stuff, even ended up taking some extra mounts (thanks to Boyd who hooked me up, he's one of the mechanics in the back, just put them in a bag and I walked out)

3. I bought a B20B from them a while back, they only had one in stock at the time. well, supposedly they did compression test and one cylinder was bad so I had to wait for another one. I finally got a B20B and just left it collecting dust for a while. I finally get around to taking it over to the machine shop I deal with and I find out that it had a broken mount(timing belt side) that had been welded back on. I immediatly got on the phone with lucky star and asked steve about the broken mount and he openly admitted to me that they had it fixed themselves.
I then totally flipped on him because he never even mentioned it to me and told them to send his driver to pick it up and bring another B20B.

next B20B gets there and we take off the head, one cylinder is PHUCKED!!!! get on the phone again and tell him to atleast compression test the next one before he sends it. next one that came was fine but his driver told my machine shop guy that he was instructed to take back the complete head from the B20B(I was not present at the time). being the good guy that Graham is(my machine shop guy) he tells the friggen driver not to touch a thing and calls me up. I inturn call up steve and tell him that he isn't taking ****.

I also purchased a JDM Y80 with LSD, I'm hoping that this one is fine since I havn't even tried it yet.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to any JDM importer in toronto unless you know your shiz, because if you don't you will be analy raped

J.K. japanese is even worse. they don't give a crap about thier customers and dopn't know jack...they tried to pass an OBD1 sohc 8valve ecu for a B18B1 ecu...I damn near pissed my pants laughing when he handed it to me and just threw it back in his face.

I say f*ck them all, cash money is the name of the game. if you don't want to get dicked you have to know your stuff, get what you need and get the hell out.

Adrian: I want to do what we discussed about your tranny, let's screw THEM over for once. I'll help you out no prob. anyways, we'll talk when you do my cousins ecu.

ALL JDM importers in the big T dot

I was there when you brought it back, red CRX and the B16A(apart from the tranny) and an S1 where in the back of the CRX, you and your buddy open up the valve cover and it's friggen tar city in there...LOL, first time I see a little CRX with a B16A swap in the trunk good stuff, good stuff...

so, did you guys ever get that baby swapped?

BTW, lucky star probably gets the best JDM toys in the T dot...too bad they can't keep a good reputation for shiz

umm, u might be thinking about a different place man
because the place i dealt with was called japan auto, in some industrial district that seemed to be full of asian people(nothing wropng woith that, just saying) and evceryone inside was japanese and chinese, and really damn nice to me

umm, phone number is 1-866-369-3330
the motor i got from them pulled some SICK numbers, so it was definately fresh, hell, the numebrs were so good alot of HT members thought i was lying about them!

I had the misfortune of seeing there awsome work as I had a guy email me about something about his car he said it was a 96 coupe with a b16a in it, he said 2nd gen I said mmm should be an obdII engine cosidering it was an OBD II car to start with. So I had to meet with this guy and took a look, To my amazement it was a second gen,no prob right just used an obd II to obdI jumper, WRONG!!! it was an obdI motor with a non-OBD distributor and the whole car was re-wired to non-obd to use the PR3 ecu!!!!!!!!! one word BUTCHERS!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, carring a b16 in the back of the CRX made it looooooww. Sold the motor to a guy in New Jersey. He is putting into an integra.

Other times Lucky Star tried to screw me:

1) gave me an LS automatic ecu with a first gen b16 swap

2) told me they had no more b16s and then I walked back in their warehouse and there were 3 ("oh, I didn't know those were there...no problem...no problem")

3) bought a swap but then made me pay extra for intermediate shaft, rear bracket.

4) bought a swap and came with no knock sensor, alternator.

Don't do business with these guys, even if you are getting a good deal.
