iPod Hookup without car stereo -- only speakers
Any 2 or 4 channel (depending on how many speakers you have) will work. You would need an adapter to go from the headphones plug into rcas. Hook that up to the ipod and the amp, put the amp's remote wire on a switch (or wire it into the ignition/accessory), and you're all set.
It is simple, but find a docking port plug to RCA adaptor, for much better SQ, the headphone output is an "amped" signal, the docking port output is a pre-amp signal.

You can purchase iPod interface adapters to RCA outputs through PAC or TRC. They also come with power and ground wires so the iPod will be charged while connected to the harness.
how does the sound quality suck? ive got an amp on the wall in my install bay that i feed my ipod directly into. it sounds fine.
Sounds fine and sounds good are two different things
It can sound good with a direct line out from the ipod (dock connector to RCA) or the Red Wine Audio Mod, then with lossless audio encoding, and then a good quailty amp and speakers
Just using the 128kbps encoding is like any crappy burned CD. If thats good enough for you, then do it.
Its not like AM station bad

I couldn't say it better. You will be ok as long as you rip your cd's at 320 kbps.

I did such an install once. Sounds okay. 2-ch amp powering 4 speakers.
Here is the pic of the installation:

Here is pic of amp installed, that's the input cable coming out from the hand cream.

Personally, I would just get a cheap deck with an AUX input on it... its alot cheaper, and won't look as ghetto as the pics above me..
