NOOB QUESTION
As long as the doors aren't locked, just slide the lever on the hatch to the left and it will unlatch. You can also use the key in the keyhole to open the hatch.
The key should open it regardless because it's purely mechanical. If the doors have been electronically locked with the switch (or an alarm), the lever won't work. Depending upon how your alarm is wired, I suppose it's possible that it's interfering with the operation of the hatch release.

This is how my friends worked , and how it was when he got it . No clue why ..
Mine I just use the latch .. 98 GSR
and I never had to use the keys but to start the car (keyless entry)

thanks alot. yeah. i guess it doesn work. but if anyone seems to work let me know with directions if theres some special way. thanks for the replys
you have to put the key in and turn it all the way, then you have to turn it just a bit more till it kinda of just ticks. and when it "ticks" you gota lift the hatch up while the key is in the position. thats how mine is. the lever doesnt do crap for me.
