Default Washing Motor @ Carwash? Will it hurt the Block or Components?

I always wondered if washing the motor @ a carwash was a good idea. What do you do when washing the motor @ the carwash? Do you have to leave the car on, rinse it down, spray it down with the engine/tire degreaser, rinse again. Or is it a bad idea and I should just clean the motor at home while the motor is cooler. As it may crack the block or hurt other components in the car. Thanks!

Cover the distributor, make sure no water gets on the air filter (if you have an aftermarket air intake). Do not leave the engine on, you don't want the engine to be hot since you will be using cold water and it might crack your exhaust manifold or other pieces.

I use Simple Green, let it sit for 10 mins, spray it off with pressure. If the oil/grease is still there, do it again in the spots you see the oil/grease.

So i guess wash it @ home using Gunk Foam while the motor is not to hot. The reason why I asked about the car wash is because I dont have a pressure washer. So if I drove the car to the car wash, the motor would be hot. Ive used simple green @ home and it really didnt clean very well. Not sure if I did it right, but I will try Gunk foam this time. Thanks!
