Default cam gear question

alright i got the aem underive kit for my HX and decided to get the cam gear replaced with an adjustable. what exactly does adjusting this gear do once it is already on? also i can just leave the top gear cover off after i install ? or will that be necessary cause of the size diff?

I would leave the entire timing belt exposed it helps keep it cooler. Also I would adjust the cam gear to the end of the little marks on it. Good luck.

Has to do with fine tuning your timing. Angle it for low end power, and retard it for high end power (i think thats how it works?). Seems somewhat useless to have unless you have a few other major mods, and are hitting the dyno often and trying to fine tune to get the best HP.

I can't believe you just said that.

Which Little mark? Adjustable cam gears usually have like 60 marks on them

LOL has nothing to do with keeping it cooler, thats what your motor's water pump and coolant system is for.

more like 1000, which is your idle, to about 3700-4500 depending on whether you have a y7 or y8

basically leave it at stock and take it to a tuner for best results.
