How do you feel about power options such as windows, locks etc? You can find a 92-95 Si for that price for sure. You could aslo pick up a 94 or 95 ex for that price also.

welcome to ht first off

depending on where you look you can get a pretty nice civic for $5500 but to let you the em1 (2dr si) is a body style that people are very proud of... and like to sell for a fortune so dont get jipped

edit: i have a 94 coupe it has power windows and locks and sunroof and all that good stuff... it's my project car but i you can get a nice one for 5500 for sure

i'd pick up 99-00 Si. If thats a little too much than a EG Si would be nice.

to do a swap it cost a lot more then u expect it to at the begining. i say find a 99-00 civic si and work on it from there. i seen plenty of swapped cars for 5K or so. ls vtech h22 b16 and b18 swaps. or find a car wit a clean interior and exterior so you can enjoy doing the motor work on ur own. all up to you

I have had really good luck with http://www.autotrader.com I always run checks on the VIN numbers. I have bought two Civic Del Sols from private buyers on their and spent $5500 on one and $6500 on the other. You can narrow your search to so many miles from where you live. I also advise when you pick one to ask to test drive and take it to a shop for a quick inspection.

3k for a 96 dx isnt that bad, but make sure when u test drive it to have a reputable mechanic check for frame damage/ rust under rear quarter panels. and carfax it!

the dx model does not come with VTEC (not v-tech), the lx does not either, the only one that does for the 96-00 year civics are the ex trim levels and si's.

dont rush into getting a car, take your time and learn about civics before you spend all that money

My advice is not to buy someone elses project. And when buying An ej chassis know that the 99-00 front end looks better to most people and you may want to consider it too.

Rust won't be a problem in cali unless the car is from another state.

I have a dx hatch, I really wish I had power windows and a sunroof. But having a hatch is worth not having a sunroof, and I can add pw/pl later pretty easily.

on the other hand i like buying peoples old projects if they are too fucked up beyond repiar you can usally part em out and make money, usally i buy **** from people that cant get a simple swap runing so i tear it out do the wire tuck simoltanisly checking the harness and drop the motor back in usally realible after that lol

The inspection was like $50 bucks... the most common problem I ran into was the SRS light not coming on after I started the engine which mean the light had probably been disabled and then the car was most likely in an accident. Car Fax is a great site and very trusted I believe you have to buy a membership but if you get like a month subscription then I mean you can search 100 differents cars in the month so its worth it.
