Default jdm b18c type r/gsr

i know that the jdm type r motors have b18c on the block and the gsr say the same thing. is there another way to tell if a bock is a type r block without taking the head off to see the pistons?

thanks alot. is see that there is alot of speculation and misinformation on this subject in those post. well mine has a 19xxxx under the B18C . and the tranny has the JHD LSD stamp and the head has the pr3 on it along with the p73 ecu and intake manifold. the only other thing i was wanting toknow is. i know the gsr and type r have alot of the same parts along with the block, because i see the block on the back says P72 and acouple of other components like the timing belt cover has P72 aswell.
o yea mine is supose to be a 96 spec-R but the ecu has a 98 spec ecu code on it, is that good or bad?
just wanting to know if that is all normal?

I have a b18c with pr3 on the head and the timing belt sprockets

I was wondering if the p73 ecu is the correct one for all JDM ITR or how to tell what year my engine is.

what kind of distributor cap do I need?

a usdm gsr or itr cap will fit, the date code is stamped in the head in the upper left corner. all jdm itr's and gsr's share the same block and oil pan. yes there is a lot of misinformation out there, however, one glance at a jdm itr engine off the crate will clear up a lot.

p73-003 and p73-a02 are the jdm-usdm codes for a 96-97 itr., the usdm 97 of course. p73-012 and 023 i'm not 100% on since both are 98+, i've heard 023 starts in 2000 but have never verified it. a03 is 98-99 and a04 is obd2b 00-01
