so I have a Boosted B18B with an LS tranny.

and I'm currently slapping on a VTEC head in about a month.

I was planning on keeping my LS tranny, but I recently came across a 96-97 Type R tranny with LSD for $900!!

so I can't pass on this deal.


so to my understanding, with sorter gears I'll have better acceleration, and this being geared properly for VTEC, I wont get out of it when ever I shift.
plus it has LSD


now my question is, since this is daily driven

how will this affect my gas millage

and since I have the LS tranny, should I be swapping the 5th gear out ? or the final drive ??

 

i am failing to see why you are so worried about gas milieage but yet turboed your car.

shouldnt have much effect but honestly it all depends on how you drive. if you put your car in 5th gear at 40-50 MPH then you'll gain fuel mileage with the R tranny cause you will be in a higher torque range. the shorter gears make for easier acceleration anything that reduces the load on the engine reduces the fuel usage to do said work.


it all depends on your driving habits if you drive long distances at say over 65-70 MPH roughly in that area you may see a small loss in fuel efficiency. but could gain too. it will get max fuel efficiency at max torque so whereever that is...

 

I'm worried of cruising on the highway with my RPMs @ 5500

and how will this affect my top speed ?

I'm keeping my LS/Vtec pretty much stock (well black anyways) so I'm worried about the revs being TOO high when I'm just cruising

I had a ls tranny on my lsvtec i switch to the type r tranny and ill never switch back. the car is a lot faster now.

 

Type R all day. Car will have more torque, gas milage will be the same. Gas milage is more dependant on throttle position and load, not RPM.

 

i got better gas mileage on my LS tranny. but id still chose a type r any day of the week.

is this really true?

 

yes sir. but it wasnt a big difference. it was a difference of like 3-4 miles a gallon.
