im going to boosting my gsr motor and was wondering....if i have some 550cc and an inline pump and a vafc to manage my fuel before i tune it..do i really need to run a fmu? sorry if this topic has been covered....

 

im also running an aem fuel rail and regulator

 

your stock ecu isnt going to like those 550s

i would get a basemap burned and drive it straight to the dyno

 

throw out the afc get a socketed p28, trailer it to a tuner and get it street tuned at least, *** the dumb ****

or get the chipped p28 and try get someone to burn you a basemap that can run your motor on 550s and then drive straight to the tuner but stay out of boost.

 

What everyone is saying is run an EMS (aem, hondata, or freeware stuff, etc) and ditch the FMU.

 

FMUs are 20th century technology, s200 is so cheap now there is no reason not to run ems.

The only reason you'd want to run an fmu or vafc is if its not a honda (and that vehicle offers almost no ems options), or you got a d15 civic for free and can't swap/build it until it blows up. From what I've heard, 550's are going to be too big to idle correctly unless you turn the fuel pressure way down.

If you do choose this route, note that you either run small injectors + fmu, or large injectors + vafc, not all vafc + fmu + large injectors.
