Default can bad water pump cause therostat not to open

92 honda civic vx. car doesn't really overheat. just needle goes a little above the middle point. i flush the system, i had a used thermostat off my old cx motor that i know works; i put that on the vx. the fan doesn't come on, i'll double check the wires to see if its wire correctly(bought car off some dude that ghetto wire everything in the car) lower radiator hose is cool to the touch and top is hot. so i'm guessing the fan is not turning on because the thermostat is not opening up but my question is can a bad water pump cause the thermostat not to open. thanks in advance.

if I had to guess I would say no, that the water pump has nothing to do with the thermostat not opening unless you had no coolant. Try putting in a new thermostat and see if that helps, also did you burp the system, you could have air in the system which def. will cause issues with thermostat not opening

i pour in coolant, open the nipple to bleed, turn on motor, i see a lot of bubbles coming out of the bleeding nut for a while. how long should it take to fully bleed out all the bubbles normally? and is the radiator cap suppose to be on or off when doing this. thanks.

you really dont need that bleeder screw. take the rad cap off and leave it off when engine is cold , start the car and let it fully warm up with rad cap off and keep topping it up the whole time. than put it back on , done.
