Leaving off charge Piping... bad for the turbo?
Ok, I understand that without the pipes hooked up, you can overspin the turbo, because there is no load... but how bad can it be on the turbo?..
I mean these turbos are designed to spin over 100,000 RPM..

centrifugal force. i guess heat would have a little to do with it also.

All I have to say is ask Glen.... A short drive home and it should be fine, but driving hundreds or even thousands of miles and it's a good chance the turbo has suffered some damage.

Yes, it is designed to see 100,000 rpm but with no load on it it will be likely to see multiple times that speed. I wouldn't do it. And if i had to i would keep it as short of a trip as possible.

That is what I did. I put 300 miles on my car without boosting. All it takes is a little self control.

Well this is from my personally experience but i probably have done over 500 miles on my car without the pipe on. It pop off and couldnt get underneath the car without tools so i drove it home like that and my turbo is still in perfect condition after 10k miles
its all on you, anyone with a little bit of self control shouldnt have a problem not getting into boost., if you have to go up a hill downshift and there wont be as much load on the engine.
also set boost cut for like 2psi.
