Default radiator blew during smog?

My radiator blew during my smog run right where the metal meets the plastic tubing at the top. It spewed out from there and out from my overflow tank. My guess is that it is due to my fan not coming on as when I fixed the fuse it stopped leaking and the fan kicked on.
1. So now I am going to replace the radiator do you guys think that maybe I have a bad thermostat as well?
2. Also I've heard that if coolant spills out of the overflow than theres a good chance of a blown headgasket is this true?

you might as well replace the thermostat its easy to get to and is pretty cheap, yes it is a possibility of a blown head gasket,, but it your case i dont think so. it sounds like you just overheated because of the fan fuse. just to make sure, i would go adhead and have a leak down test done on it,,,just to be sure.

if you have a leaking headgasket you will have brown in your coolant from the oil.

Leaking out of the overflow tank can be an indication of that also, though I think the problem here was just the overheating.
