tap sets are for making threads, which you shouldn't need to do. you're supposed to drill a hole in the plugs with a drill and then use a slide hammer to pull out of the manifold.

but to answer your question i think you just attach whatever tap you plan on using to a hand wrench and slowly turn the bit to create the threads.

The slide hammer they sold me is way to big. I am going to try and find a smaller version.

In general, to tap a hole, you first drill it out to the size just smaller than the threads, then you lube the tap up, and screw it in slowly, blowing out the metal shavings as you go....

What is it you guys are doing to the egr that requires a slide hammer?

cmon matt you never cleaned your egr ports tisk tisk.

I have the pdf if you want to take a look.

for the ports you have to pull out the plugs that are in each runner. so you can clean out all the carbon stuck in there.

Well I knock the plugs into the ports. Now I think I just destroyed my intake!

Did that and it did not help. The original Engine had 142,000+ miles on it and there is just to much build up.
