Hmm ive got a weird problem. When i take some turns hard and fast sometimes ill get a strange whirring / rubbing / humming sound from the rear of the car. The sound always comes from the wheel on the same side of the turn, so a hard right will make the back right tire make noise, and a hard left will cause the rear left to make noise.

The right side seems to make the noise more often than the left. I dont think the tires are literally rubbing on anything- they are 13" steelies and are pretty skinny i dont see how they could touch the inside of the fender.. ever. I replaced all the suspension this weekend with kyb agx + ground control coilovers and new LCAs but teh noise is still there...

What could cause the noise? Could it be like a bad rear trailing arm bushing or something? er a worn camber arm in the rear? It doesnt effect driving, its just very annoying and i know its not SUPPOSE to make that noise so id like to remedy it if possible...

any ideas?

 

How low is your car, and what type of shocks/springs?

It sounds to me like you're dunking your rear suspension, and the tire is rubbing. It sounds like a high-pitched "whhhhhhrrrrrrrrrr"

 

"dunking rear suspension"? - whats that mean?

car is not low at all, there is about a 1" wheel gap and the coilovers are up as high as they go-

kyb agx and ground control coilovers, stock 13" steelies....

car was making the sound BEFORE and AFTER replacing the oem suspension so i dont think it has to do with ride height...

 

Do you have any rear camber issues?

 

how's ur wheel bearings?

Wheel bearings would squeal more than whir, and they'd do it constantly.

in that case i have the same prob as the op, only on one wheel though.

 

yeah i dont think its the wheel bearings- i had them go on my other car and yeah, they squeal like a bitch, this is more of a hum/whirr sound...

camber in the back is pretty good i think, i mean i didnt have any camber wear issues on the stock suspension and the aftermarket i just put on didnt seem to effect teh camber much cause its not really dumped that low...

Inspected the rear tires for signs of rubbing and they look perfect- even still have the lil rubber hairs on the sidewall from when they were new

 

You could check your rear trailing arm bushings, but I'd be surprised if that were the problem. You'd probably have a really rough ride if those started going out.

 

i just did a rear disc conversion and one wheel started whirring and making the same symptoms as the op. When I had the drums, my rta bushings were completely ripped, but didn't make any whirring sounds or humming sounds.
