Spark, Fuel, but NO COMPRESSION!!! help, IS IT A BLOWN MOTOR? CRX 87' Si.
hello,
i have a 87' crx si. i checked the spark and fuel-both are good. did a compression and came up with nothing or zero. -the car was not started for over a month-
please help asap. thanks.

pull the valve cover, look to see if the valves are moving.
If not, broken timing belt, hosed valves. Thes ehonda motors are interference motors right?

did you mean that take the valve cover off and then turn the car on???
and what do you mean be interference motors???

alright i tried to turn it on (cranked it) for a minute but exhaust fumes started comin out from the intake manifold where the throttle body is. whats up with that??????

no, I meant take the valve cover off and turn the motor over by hand or with the ignition disabled and a bump switch so you could inspect the valve train.

I would tend to agree with this statement.

This is like the people that come into my work and don't know if their car is a four cylinder, V6, V8, 4wd or any other normal details about their car. Yet they are wanting to buy spark plugs, oil filter, etc. People REALLY should step back and learn something about their effing cars.
It's so annoying.
"CLEVIS RUN OUTSIDE AND SEE IF IT SAYS V-6 ON THE TOP OF THE MINI VAN'S MOTOR?"
"HOW DO YOU SPELL THAT MA?"
Morons.

OK Im taking it to the shop and I will send you the bill ok??? Im not stupid i just thought you might know what the problem is...you know it being a tech sight and all...if you don't know just say so...thats all...I think that you should shut down the site and give it a new name like...
wedon'tknow.com
welovetomakeyourllifelivinghell.com
wedon'thelp.com
ilovemyhondafuckyours.com
ihavenothingbettertodothantopostnegativefeedbackfo rpeoplethatneedhelp.org
one of those should be good...
Honestly why put up a site that is called "HONDA-TECH" when people just talk **** all day long and help knowone??
THIS IS NOT TO THE HONEST PEOPLE ON HERE THAT HELP OTHERS OUT**
do you have a general idea of what might be the problem??
I get spark!
I get fuel pressure!
NO COMPRESSION because im sure it would have to crank over before compression can be read right??
If I turn long enough smoke will come out of the throttle body and it smells like fuel....
DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?????

I think your major problem with getting good responses because you don't give us enough information.
You also seem to not exactly know how these motors work. You shouldn't start a motor without the valve cover on, and interference motor means that without a timing belt, your valves will slap against the top of the pistons, causing bent valves.
Please try to provide some more information so that people can actually help you. What is the history of this motor, etc. You canget compression readings by turning the motor over using the crankshaft and a wrench.

and i think the domain name should be changed too.
ilovemyhondafuckyours.com is a good one.

I'm betting the cam is broken. My first 86 crx Si came with a broken cam. My friend just bought a 86 Si hatch and guess what. Cam broken.
Pull the valve cover and check to see if the camshaft rotates with the crank. Or do like I did, grab the cam gear and pull it out of the head.

yes I did sir and nothing at all....no compression....
any suggestions anyone??
any suggestions anyone??
You can also take the cap off the distributer and see if the rotor spins when you crank it, but unplug the thing first so you dont shock the **** outa yourself. (Ive seen it happen) Or you can just turn the motor by hand by throwing a 17mm socket on the crank bolt and turn.

pull the head and see if you've got a hole in your pistons, cracked block or bent valves
^ above post, the OP already knows he has spark, so why mess with the ignition system more????
edit: Are you sure you were on the compression stroke for that current cylinder when doing the compression test? pull the valve cover and shine a flash light threw the spark plug hole and look for holes. Either the test was wrong or you have a fucked block

the fact that he has already said that he got exhaust gasses through the intake means that something is wrong in the valvetrain.
My original suggestion stands.
Take off the valve cover, turn the motor over by hand, see if the valves move.
If the valves aren't moving you've got a broken timing belt or a broken cam.
To the original poster:
dude, expletive you. I gave you a valid suggestion, you came back and asked more questions without giving us answers to what we already told you to do.
Do you want people to magically diagnose your motor without seeing it?
You're the eyes and ears here dude, so when someone tells you to do something, go and do it and report back with what happened.
This is how it works. if you can't handle turning a few wrenches to take off the valve cover and look at the valves then this repair is far beyond your scope. it was suggested to take it to a shop so you didn't expletive up the motor anymore.
edit:
I like this forums filter. Expletive you, that's awesome.

take the oil cap off, have someone crank the engine.
Do things move?
YES= continue to step 2
NO= throw a new T-belt or a new head or a new engine
Step 2. if stuff moves in the valve train when you crank it the t belt is not torn. squirt oil in all the cylinders and re run the compression test.
BETTER READINGS= rings are probably stuck from sitting so long. either keep squirting oil and cranking till they loosen or take the engine apart
NO CHANGE= check cam timing, if cam timing is ok get a new engine

I probably should have pointed that out.
