Default Need help, new to ITR's - CAT question

I've already tired searching and came up with no answers. Heres the story, I was given a 2001 Type R with 70k miles, which has a comptech Ice box, jdm DC 4-1 headers, sms test pipe, stock muffler, cam gears and a VAFC. The car spews black smoke and drinks oil. With my research so far ive come to think that the problem is mostly due to the test pipe. I know the car had JUN 3's and it dropped a valve, so the stock cams were put back in. Can someone guide me to what I should do to bring her back to life. I know its due for a tune up as well. What should I look for CAT wise. I cant seem to find the length I need or the brand I should go with. TIA for any advice.

Compression test and leakdown test first. Those answers would tell you where to go.

Test pipe could contribute to stuff coming out, but there has to be a source too.

The test pipe isn't going to have anything to do with black smoke or oil consumption bro.

By not having a cat on the car wouldnt that contribute to unburnt fuel coming out of my exhaust?? The oil ive come to live with, it seems all R's do that.

The length of the cat would probably be about the same as the length of the pipe presently taking its place.

It would seem that the car might have been run low on oil for a while and hence damaged at least the oil control rings.

I'd be more concerned with doing a leakdown and compression check, then checking the VAFC settings (or just zeroing that thing out), and then see if you're still running rich.
