Is a Test pipe really needed?

Default Is a Test pipe really needed?

just wondering if all the boosted guys out there suggest that i should get a test pipe...i have heard its not needed and also have heard that i do need it...maybe you guys can help me make up my mind.

It will definitely help with spooling but your car is going to be running rich, naturally, so it will probably stink.

Well i am not turbo but i do have Vortech SC, anyway i would suggest a testpipe unless poplution controls in your area restrict it. I waited to long in buying my car one and the increased backpreasure burnt a exhaust valve in #3 which i thnk could of been prevented if i had a test pipe and better header.

I can't remember the post, but someone claimed like 25 hp just by swapping the cat for a test pipe. Don't know if that's BS or not.

But the less restriction, the better, as long as your state isn't strict about emissions.
