Default MPG at diff RPMS

looking for some educated guesses.

say you shifted only at 3500 RPM, tested your MPG
and then shifted only at 4400 RPM and again tested your MPG

what would you guess the difference in MPG would be if any ?

The words 'F if I know' come to mind. To actually answer this, I think someone would have to drive CONSISTENTLY like this.

Of course, you are asking for an educated guess. My educated guess is 4-6, more 4 than 6, in favor of shifting at 3500 RPM (on the Si).

The lower you shift, the better gas mileage. Unless you shift so low you have to push the gas down harder to get up to speed; lugging the engine.

again, it depends on too many other variables. The only way to find out is to try it.

I actually did this in the last few weeks. I drove a whole tank and never got over 3500-400RPM's and when I filled up I got 39.64 mpg.
Then the next tank I drove like I normally do and step on it a bit more to get in and out of traffic (got a ticket in the process) and when I filled up I was getting 35.73 mpg this time. I usually average around 35-36 normally.

this has been of some interest to me lately in trying to get the max mpg...got actually 38 mpg on a small road trip. Drove around 65 mph or so and let the car coast down the hills and let it barely climb up the hills with just barely pressing down on the gas...worked pretty swell...just took a little longer to get to the destination.
