Hello,
I did a lil search and rendered no answers so here it go Honda heads.
I am getting a D16y8 sohc vtec motor and was wondering if I change the Auto Trans to a Manuel Trans will the same ECU work for either?
Thanx, Budget Racer

Actually I believe you can modify the an auto ECU to use it on a manual. I would check the Marketplace and talk to one of the companies that does ECU modifications as I am sure one of them would be able to help you out. From what I heard its a minor change and anyone that knows how to chip should know how to make the change.

is it obd1 or 2

you just have to resolder twice... RP17 and RP18 on the ecu, i did it to my p28 when i first got it.. there was a writeup but i have no ECU knowledge and i did it fine with no problems, u just have to have a steady hand and partial brain waves and ull be ok haha.. you do however need a little peice of solder though cuz u have to jump the RP18 resistor... GL man...
edit: i found this pic that should be all you need if ur OBD1 anyways.. from the way it sounds OBD2 may be different but check it out... Where RP17 is you have to desolder that resistor and leave nothing there, than RP18 is for auto to so you desolder RP18 an just use a peice of jumper wire to solder back in place of the resistor on RP18 and then your set... By using the jumper wire it resets the values of RP18 and basically just bypasses it...

yeah bro if ur all OEM than u should have an OBD2 P2P ecu in ur ride.... Probably easier/cheaper to just get a manual version "about 50 bucks is what it prolly will be around"..
FYI, all you have to do to OBD1 is cut rp17, IC16,IC15. no need to use soldering iron or anything, no need to put a jumper on rp18 either. you can use finger nail clipers to convert a auto to manual. nail clipers ftw
lol where were u at about 3 years ago when i first was beating my head on the wall wondering this haha... pgmfi.org's writeup says the whole RP17 RP18 thing thats why i did it that way, but glad to see theres an easier way....
P2P-A12 - 99-00 EX sedan/coupe manual
P2P-A92 - 99-00 EX sedan/coupe auto
BTW, leaving RP18 unjumpered can cause CEL19 in some ECUs. I've seen it twice now. But I've also seen 25+ converted without the jumper with no problems...
