Default HELP: vtec keeps turning off

hi guys, i have this problem with my 1st gen b16...whenever i go about 85 mph for an extended period of time (10 seconds or so), or whenever i'm racing to redline, my vtec just turns off...what's wrong? well, all i know is that my check engine light comes on after vtec engagement (about 5000 rpm), and i've checked the code, it has to do with the vtec (forgot what my friend said it was but it had to deal with vtec)...pls help, my b16 is just a zc now....

make sure you have enuff oil in it vtec works off of oil pressure also , make sure the connection is good on the solenoid . if you take the solenoid off there is a screen on it make sure it isn`t cloggedup .

yea so anyways, i'm still having this problem, i checked my oil and its about 75% to where the top hole is on the dipstick...the connections seem fine as well...anything else that could be an easy check/fix?

Did you add VTEC fluid? that always helps. =x....or maybe you should add the clapper like i did, when i want VTEC to turn on i clap on, clap off.
I thought that was funny.. Anyways, i'll try to be a part of the solution. See if it's the ecu, jump your vtec wire to 5v. I would have a friend sit shotgun and apply 5v to the vtec wire after 5k. if it cuts out after 10 sec then it maybe your vtec solenoid. if it runs fine then its your ecu. if you checked your oil levels and they seem fine then this may be your problem, hth. vtec fluid..lol

dang, i hate to post twice but i was thinkin to slow. instead of jumpin the vtec wire to 5v just stick a voltmeter on there and see what it says when you engage into vtec, again have a friend sit shotgun to read the meter so you dont drive off the road.

it should be 5 volts coming off of the vtec wire, should be pin A8. double check the wire to make sure.

yeah sounds like you do have a automatic ECU. I have one on my B16A too it sucks. And the fuel cut off is at 7400. Sometimes my vtec doesn't work either very strange, still trying to figure it out also
