Default rod knock??? searched

I just bought this car. I dont know if its a rod know or just need a really bad valve adjustment. It is really loud when you turn it on. when I drove it . it ran fine was doing 65 like nothing. It wasn't making a noise at this speed. But at a stop it will dye out. will be doing a compression test tomorrow.

rod knock would sound like a hammering noise comming from the bottom of your engine

rod knock is also not continuous - it tends to happen under acceleration or load
valve chatter is all the time

Well he shouldn't be getting piston slap when he's at operating temp unless his motor is on its way out.

my waterpump on my Ls sounded just like that, take a flat head screwdriver and put it to where you think the knock is, and listen to through the handle...

Pull the valve cover off and bring the #1 piston to TDC and check the clearance on the rockers.
