Default Damping setup for best 60 ft

I'm interested in hearing how people get their best 60 ft. with an adjustable coilover suspension. I'm running a GAZ coilover system with adjustable damping with 550 lbs front springs and 1000 lbs rear springs. I normally turn the damping **** all the way over to get it as hard as possible but I'm not sure that's optimal. The bound and rebound setting is altered with the same control ****.

i liked using the softest setting on my old street car,(i used koni yellows, and also had kyb agx's) it would seem alot less violent that way. 1.8 60 on drag radial/ no traction bar. not that its good but at least its 1 more opinion

ive always felt that minimum travel of the rear suspension will yeild the best launch. the less weight that transfers to the rear of the vehicle, and off the drive wheels, the more traction will be available. FWD cars run wheelie bars for this very reason, to minimize weight transfer as much as possible

i dont feel the same way. i think the reason the fwd cars run big wheelie bars is because they run big slicks and there is a ton of contact patch. on your average slick or street tire i think you need that energy to go somewhere. i speak from experance. my car has junk coil overs and stock shocks with 517whp (no boost controler) and on bfgs i pulled a few 1.7s and on slicks every time i pull no less then a 1.65 or better.
my car was not the only car we tested this on. on a street all motor car 1.57 60' with junk **** on a 23" slick

So i would say it doesent make a huge differance

Best presets?

your on the right track, stiffer is not always better, but every case is different.
ive seen people get great 60' on stiff rear springs, but i never had good results until i dropped to a lighter spring rate. its all about testing.

the straighter the axles are the better off you are for hight, the reason the pros till there motor forward so much. is to get the car lower, and not have such a steep axle angle

But a lower CG will have less weight transfer.

correct me if im wrong but wouldnt the weight of a car have more effect on things? i mean ebay coils and stock struts may work on a gutted 2000lb hatch, but on a 2700lb sfwd car i would think your going to need something stiffer because there will be alot more weight transfer.....so in short, lightweight car=softer springs, heavy car=stiff springs.....am i going in the right direction with that theory?

yes and no, ive seen a crx that weighs nothing, run 1000lb springs and it runs great in the first 60'. now i have seen another crx that just didnt do crap worth a 60' with stiff 1k springs. he moved down to a softer rate, i recommended a 600 spring and it went .2 quicker. spring rates and weight are just some of the small things you need to look at.

1. center of gravity, try and sit the car as low as possible. and remove as much weight from the highest point in the car to the lowest. imo seating placement helps a ton. im sitting on the floor in my car
2. corner balance. 75%-25% to 70%-30% works pretty well for me
3. front tires. as to drag racing you have to compensate for tire growth under acceleration. 0 to 60' is most important to me. now when you do corner balance you have to compensate for this. there is about 1.5" that you will be working with
4. traction or track surface everyone should know how important this is when testing your 60' times
5. tire temps and psi
6. finally suspension tuning, rebound and compression is really not too much of a factor in the rear but more in the fronts.

alot of people havent been to the track enough to "know" their car.

My car definitely hooks better with more rear rebound damping. It loses a little stability over bumps with a bunch of rebound though. I'm running 125lb/in rear springs and strange single adjustables. This is with wheelie bars and the front is about 850lb/in wheel rate. The front shocks were all screwed up last year, but the best 60' was still a 1.341. I went through the stiff rear spring setup in the past, soft definitely works better with wheelie bars.

what have you guys found with relation to ride height? im using the omnipower drag coilovers. what ive found is i get the best 60's when the car is raised as much as possible.

like i said every car is different, you just have to do the testing yourself. there is no real answer to quicker 60's other then to "just do it"
