Default Another "Bogging when hitting VTEC" thread

Okay guys. Here's the situation. I had a stock 00 JDM ITR motor that was in my EH2 (obd1 dizzy and usdm vtec solenoid) that was working great with no problems. I sold it to a friend (just the motor) who installed it this past weekend in his 95 DC4 and it was just a nightmare getting it started.

We pretty much hooked it up with a gsr tranny and installed it using the majority of the parts (fuel system which is obd1) from the DC4. The motor wouldnt start (it clicked over) but wouldnt start. Turns out, the timing was all wrong (Im still puzzled about this). So we fixed the timing (1st by hand and then with a timing gun) and now it runs and idles good.

But when you try to WOT, the motor revs good until you hit 5.5k and then it starts bogging really bad and is having trouble climbing the rpm. Now, we're using a usdm vtec solenoid (vtec has not been hooked up yet) and a chipped p28 with a gsr map.

Even without vtec being hooked up, the motor should still be able to rev up to redline without any problems, right? Now what gets me puzzled is why would the timing be all screwed up? I took it out of my car and he installed it in his and now there's mad bogging where vtec would usually hit. Help?

notes:
1. swapped a good running 00 JDM ITR motor from my EH2 into a 95 DC4
2. motor first didnt start
3. found out it was due to bad timing, fixed timing, now it starts and idles good
4. main problem now is that the motor runs fine until you hit 5.5k and up where it will bog, have no power, and would not want to go higher
5. vtec is not hooked up, running a chipped p28 with a gsr map, redid timing

Help please. Ive searched and there's A LOT of threads with this problem, but NEVER a solution (at least i couldnt find one dealing with this). A lot of suggestions again, but no real solution.

What we've done already

1. changed out dizzy and spark plugs and wires for working ones
2. his fuel system was working fine before we swapped in the new motor so we figure it cant be the fuel system
3. redid the timing (stock motor) with a timing gun and we're dead on
4. changed out ecu's with different ones, still same problem
5. oil is good

Any CELs?

VTEC engines do not like to rev on the low lobes.

Yeah i'm willing to bet it's just poor tuning issues because it's on the low cam lobe. Or better yet, since vtec isn't engaged, and the ecu is expecting it to be, maybe it's running the vtec maps above 5500 even though you're still on the low cam, hence causing a bogging condition?

the only cel is for the vtec not being hooked up.

is it the same ecu that u were using? a gsr map on an ITR motor just doesn't sound right to me.

no, i was using a s100 with an itr map (thats been sold) so we dont have that to play with. the odd thing is the timing. i just dont understand why we had to play with it when it was fine in my car. again, still bogging bad

Hook up the VTEC. Can you hear it engage and you are just receiving a CEL for the pressure switch or is it not engaging?

I agree with this.

wait, u dont the solenoid plugged in and that's the CEL you are getting. i dont get it how you dont have it hooked up and expect it to run right.

i think we all agree when i say you should probably hook up the solenoid to the ecu, but im not the car doctor, the ecu is programmed for vtec so of course its not wanting to rev up higher, it needs that extra pressure.

what RPM does the VTEC hits??? anything below 53k would be too low, which causes bog
