Default i thohugt my distributor was bad? but my spark plug .......

i think my distributor is bad?

ok this happened twice now, 1st time was on the freeway going 80 and this spark shot out my exhaust. so my car stalled and coasted on the freeway and pulled off the road, car turns over and over, at that time i didnt know what just happen, but later in time figured it was a bad distributor, but i 1st replace and rotor/cap, spark plugs/wires, that didnt work. so i installed a new dizzy into my ls/vtec and replaced it with the same one, TD-84U 96-01 GSR dizzy. installed it and she fired right up and fixed the timing at the same time. ran good for the next 11 months of driving.

today on the freeway cruising 60mph to work normal driving she stalled on the freeway, scary at the time because of heavy rush hour was near by, pulled off the road, tried starting her up turns over and over. Baxter auto parts was nearby. so somehow i manage to start the car and it was a rough start and idle, knew i had blew a rotor/cap. once i got there i checked it out and uninstall the rotor/cap and there was a white spark mark in the cap, so bought new rotor/cap figure that was the problem installed it and still turns over and over.

sorry for the long story, so my question is what wrong with my dizzy?

at this time it has a warranty from distributor king either to fix or replace the dizzy i bought from them.

setup in my ek:
b16a2 si head, with s2s2 camshafts, ss valves and titan springs
b18b1 block stock internal
b16a2 tranny
td84u distributor (gsr)
ngk spark plugs/wires
p72 ecu

let me know whats wrong, thank you!

Probably the dizzy coil. Replace the dizzy itself.

I had the same problem. Died out on the freeway. It was the ignition coil.

It's common for the distributor coil to just burn up on D-Series.

Why would you replace the complete distributor if just the coil was bad? That's burning almost $100.

Typicall either the coil or the ICM go out. Check for interupted ground at the coil. If it is interrupted then replace the coil. If its not, replace the ICM. Pretty simple diagnostic that may save you a bunch of money.

the plug that is damaged was hard to get out and installed all four new plugs. In cyl#2 spark plug was kinda hard to screw in, i may have damaged the b16 head, plugging the spark wire #2 into cyl#2 has a small gap, will not plug all the way in!

you need to pull the head and inspect the block for more damage

When the plug looks like that, its time to pull the head and see what happened.
