Slim to none that I know of
But as everyone says, if you have enough money, you can do pretty much anything.

OptimusPrimeX: yes it is.

MNCRXSi: I am just curious, my gf tends to drive the X to school and says she is scared of the brakes. haha, I'm surprised she hasn't complaint about the no power steering.

It is possible, but I would not bother and swap the Honda ALB system. It basicly is not a very good system (at least for the 4th gen) and is very difficult to install.

I'm currently looking into swapping an ABS system of an Astra GSi (GM/ vauxhaul). They use a(n) (universal) Bosch ABS system. It consists of an ABS brake unit with a 4 piston booster and stand alone ABS computer.. the setup looks pretty simpel and should be worth the effort. I'm sure other brands use aftermarket ABS systems as well.

Try stopping fast on wet tarmac without ABS

My CRX SiR had ALB, but the previous owner removed it. Good or bad? I don't know.

I wouldn't bother. Take your money and spend in on a big brake swap - get big, 4 wheel discs and THEN you'll see a difference.

Besides, its a proven fact - ABS does NOT slow you down faster. If anything it increases the braking distance. All ABS does is keep you from locking up the wheels so you can continue to steer and avoid a collision.

Basically, it a safety mechanism for drivers who aren't skillful enough to manipulate their car's brakes in a manner known as threshold braking. Ever wonder why there aren't many race cars that have ABS? Even in ProRally?! Why have the car do it for you when you can learn to do it better?

Sorry I do not agree, you are right about big brakes, they make a hell of a difference compared to the shitty 9.5" discs up front and they will not lock-up as fast but you cannot be serious about "drivers who aren't skillful enough to manipulate their car's brakes".. Com'on you really think there is ANY driver in the world who can outbrake an ABS (or any electronic safety-) system? No way!

The reason why in some Motorsport classes ABS and traction control are forbidden is because (un-)experienced drivers go way too fast relying on those systems..
ABS, traction control (TCS), stability systems (ESP) can be used as an advantage for the most experienced drivers, but if you don't have the skills/feeling for basic car handling these systems give a false sense of security and when things go wrong they really go wrong because they drive the car over the edge of handling capacity!! And yes ESPECIALLY those in the general public because most of them get scared in oversteer/emergency situations..

Therefor electronic safety systems are not always the best but in the case of ABS I am glad to make an exception!

ABS is not used on road courses because if the car goes off the track, ABS can continue to let the wheels turn and damage the car.

that said, i'm a big fan of ABS, and i've read studies that show with tested fact that ABS does indeed stop a car faster and shorter than a non ABS car. in the 'real world' i would rather have ABS for sure, and i'm not a 'crappy driver.'

try trail braking in a car with abs. i'd rather spend the money it would take on a nice big brake kit.

check this out..from http://www.howstuffworks.com..
ABS is designed to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle during emergency braking situations, not make the car stop more quickly. ABS may shorten stopping distances on wet or slippery roads and many systems will shorten stopping distances on dry roads. On very soft surfaces, such as loose gravel or unpacked snow, an ABS system may actually lengthen stopping distances. In wet or slippery conditions, you should still make sure you drive carefully, always keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you, and maintain a speed consistent with the road conditions.

ABS saved me from slamming into another car one time when the moron decided to slam on his brakes cause he almost missed his street. True I must have been following closer than I should have( not tailgaiting) but If the ABS had not been on the teg, my front bumper could have benn sitting in his back seat. Once the ABS kicked in I had full control of the car, I was able to put myself in a spot where I would not hit the car in front of me and or blocked oncoming traffic. I am not a pro race car driver but ABS for daily driving.

When people say upgrade to bigger brake kit, does that only mean buy an aftermarket brake system or can I just upgrade to a Civic or Integra brakes for from and rear?

Which discs brakes can I fit on the X that will not cost too much and be a hassle to install?
I am assuming upgrading to a tegs or civics disc brakes would be much cheaper since I can get the parts at the junk yard.
If I use and aftermarket kit it means I will need to get wheels that will fit ovet the new brakes.

SuperCivic,

You are exactly right... ABS is all about control, not braking distance. As I said before, it is a proven fact that ABS actually increases the breaking distance. But it keeps the wheels from locking up so that you can steer. A person who can break just on the threshhold of wheel lock will stop quicker than a car where the wheels are going * BRAKE * TURN * BRAKE * TURN * BRAKE * TURN * BRAKE * TURN * BRAKE * TURN * BRAKE * TURN. You get the idea. Can most people do this? No? Can I do it all the time? Nope. But I'm practicing and getting better.

However, my main point was to say that bigger brakes will stop you faster (i.e. in a shorter distance) than ABS will. They are more effective per dollar. However, if you want to take the hit in your wallet and do BOTH, then go for it! But given the choice: 4 wheel, BIG discs are much, much better.

Big Brakes =

can I buy integra disc brakes from teh junk yard and install in the front?
I know I can do it for the rear, but are the integra disc brakes bigger in the front than the stock ones on the 88 Si?

Would like bigger brakes, but most aftermarket kits are $$$$, trying to see my options.

TIA

Actually if you have the EX knuckle the ITR calipers fit right on, but where will you find them? I'm searching my *** of for ITR, 6th gen 5dr VTi, 3.2 Legend calipers (17cl15VN). Trust me it is hard to find them.

EX knuckle + 17CL14VN (accord wagon 1990-1994) + Prelude VTEC 1993-1997 rotors = relative inexpensive and you get:

-262mm rotors
-95% of the braking surface as on the 17cl15vn calipers (282mm)
-bigger caliper to work with

And thee calipers are a lot bigger than the stock EX/SiR calipers!!!!

ITR (the upper ones) vs Accord pads
