Cage is all done...
hahaha thanx man...it was finished in the sense that it was all welded up and the interior was in...but the picasso (owner) that painted the cage deff needs to go over it a few more times...get on it Rob!..
I'd be really upset if that were my car....
F'ed up rear bumper....
Door bars are crazy high....
Dash is all tore up.... (I don't think that will pass NJ inspection with a cut up vin area)
this was a Kens Kustom kit too right? I know for a fact that you can get the A-pillar bars tighter to the car then that with their kit in a teg....

the car had a cage in it prior to having this one put in which is why the rear bumper is hacked up. and do you really think that I plan on taking my car through inspection? its a track car dude. I dont plan on driving it on the street. As for the A pillar bars, this was the tightest they would fit. I think my cage had some flaws in it when it was pre bent because ken was sick that week and i dont think he personally bent my cage. (he offered to give me new bars but i was fine with how they turned out) as far as the door bars go, they were also off because they were supposed to bend out, however they werent even close to clearing the door panel. Im quite content with my cage. I wasnt looking for perfection, and i also wasnt looking to spend a fortune and needed it done fast. Im very happy with how it turned out. They did a great job considering the circumstances i gave them
ahhh u beat me to the punch rob....if ur r talking about the englishtown tech inspection then u must not come out here that often because i have seen chromoly cages migd together running low 10'2-high 9's and not one word was said to them...thanks for the insight as usual. :0)

Well, going by your sig, it seems that you want to compete in SFWD. If I remember correctly you must maintain an active registration thus requiring an inspection by the state of NJ.... correct?

Well tepid, I dont know how you're state works however, NJ has something called a collectors inspection which allows you to avoid going to state inspection and getting a sticker put on the car. The only downside is you are only allowed to put X amount of miles on the car per year. Why dont we be honest for a minute here, how many cars in SFWD do you actually think pass a state inspection? id be suprised if you could tell me 3 and those 3 arent one of the faster ones.... The fact of the matter is, i wasnt into spending 2-3k on a cage, i told them my budget, and time limit, they got it done and im pleased.

I mean, I am trying to get what's going on here. All of a sudden we have this influx of guys and noob names from "Jersey", "Dirty Jersey", and all this. I mean, this is a fab forum, but all it looks like to me is your doing a **** load of plugging your own business and new forum for your business.
I asked for a source of your aluminum bends in one of your other threads you loaded up on here recently, and all you provided me with was an offer to "middle man" the deal and buy some stuff from your local supplier and resell it to me.
It's obvious your goal is to plug your business and grow riding the back of Honda-Tech. That's all fine too, just pay for your sponsorship and your good to go.
I like seeing the fab, but it's very clear your intention is to sell your services, and why noone has pointed any of your threads out yet is beyond me.
No offense, and I'm not targeting you for any reason other than the obvious, there are guys who pay to be sponsors, and until you pay too you shouldn't be targeting their potential customers.
I'm just getting sick of every damn guy/group of friends on here trying to run/start a business cause they've built 3 Honda's amongst the 3 of themselves. I've had my own business since 2001 and you don't see me on here trying to impose my baller status and steal customers...hell I don't plug my sh*t period...99% of members here don't even know what my "sh*t" is!! I come here for information purposes, and to help others out, not to keep secrets in an attempt to find some young impressionable Honda enthusiasts and lure them in.
This deal comin out of nowhere sounds like some kind of CCfab operation that was born overnight. It's real simple man, check out the sponsorship info, pay your money, then post all the stuff you want encouraging everyone to go to your "sig" and see more
Treating this as a simple cage thread-That cage install is sloppy, plain and simple.
EDIT: You know if matters couldn't be any worse, I did a search of your posts and your topics you've created since you started here. You don't have 1...not ONE technically oriented post, and since late 2006 all you did is plug your new garage and you building your own car.
Since you've been a member you haven't helped out a soul on here except yourself through the classifieds and posting your "work" with a link to your new website.

Actually, the fact of the matter Rob, is that your car does not qualify as a collector car.... so you can throw that out the window.
I know of more than 5 cars from the top of my head that are street legal, meet all dot regs, and place rather well in SFWD.
There is no need to get all defensive over this. You have to admit that the cage came out rather hacked and it looks like they put it in quickly.
If I remember correctly TurboJesse of AZFI was banned for doing the same thing that DJB is doing here. Only thing that sucks about that is his work was actually flawless unlike this stuff....

You can't buy your way into commercial posting in a tech or marque forum. In certain rare cases, you can reach an agreement with the owner that will allow you a stickied running thread in a particular forum, but that is not something that a small company is going to want to do.
A company can pay to run commercial threads in the sponsor section for very little money.

With what sanctioning body are you driving? The side bars are not NASA or SCCA compliant. Properly padded, I think you might be able to drive in Solo 2 or NASA HPDE (depending on how Tech enforces the CCR in your region), but I don't think you could race w/that particular cage.
Is it a drag racer?
If the Momo seats do not have an FIA number on them, you will need back braces on both seats.

Whatever floats your boat man.. but does anyone have an example of a cleaner way of doing this?</TD></TR></TABLE>
When you get fast enough that people are telling you to cage your track car, the looks of the interior have to go out the window. Hell, if you're not very specific about it, you'll probably even lose the VIN plate on the window!
For whatever it's worth, his dash looks better than mine. My car is at the very edge of what the state police will allow in Virginia. It's hard to have a fully caged car that's on the street. It's really not the safest thing to be doing.

tepid, i wasnt getting defensive sorry if i came off that way. You came out saying my car wont pass state inspection, which is wont but i was under the impression that no cars in sfwd can realistically pass a state inspection no matter what state it is. The cars that you know that are street legal that run in sfwd, do they meet the emissions regulations? If so im suprised
thanks for the input george, i plan on drag racing the car window net still needs to be done as well has padding and misc stuff to the cage/interior. just trying to work through the rulebook. From what ive seen, that since my seat is up against the cross bar, i dont think i need a brace on it. correct me if i am wrong though.

You'd better read your club's CCR to be sure. In NASA, if the seat is not FIA, you would need a back brace even if you are just in HPDE.
I won't go into gory details, but Jim Politi has this weird scenario that ends up pushing you back under the harness bar in a non-FIA seat.
Yuck.
Knowing that you're drag racing and not circuit driving basically answers most of the concerns I had about the cage.
Very best of luck!

I know that my car will pass emissions (it has before), is registered and legal for SFWD.
Turbocivic94's car will also pass emisions, is registered, but he lacks the cage for competition. He has a 9.7ish second car as well.

i know that in NJ once you start to modify a car its impossible to pass state inspection. i couldnt even pass my last integra that was turbo it had a cat all that emissions stuff. I dont know how strict NJ is compared to other states but regardless thats pretty cool if a car is going 9.7 and 100% legal sound wise, emissions and all that for the street.
i call bs that any car with a cage will pass state inspection in NJ...its obstruction of view..we arent even allowed to have gauges on the pillar unless it came factory equiped...so i dnt really know how it is in ct.

You make good points George, I'm not too picky about my interior or even my exterior... but it has to look clean enough to keep the fuzz off my back.
Around here, if you start cutting up the vin area, you're basically asking for you car to get towed. That's my main concern... and if it takes an hour of extra work to make the dashboard look a little cleaner than I'm willing to do it.
I've tried to keep my car as street-legal-as-possible so far but any signs of tire rub, missing or altered emissions equipment or funky business with the VIN and my ride remains "street legal" by honda-tech standards but not by provincial standards.
This is now OT but I'm wondering if it's possible to install the dashboard while cutting in from the sides. Maybe even have the bars go through where the vents are (on a CRX) while still following all the rules. I could swear I've seen it in a magazine.

The same rules apply here in the states too.
What boggles me is that they pulled the front windshield to do this install. They could have mocked up the cage fitment with the dash out (taking measurements), cut holes in the dash (with a hole saw and using those good measurements), reinstalled the dash, dropped the pillar bars through the open windshield and swung the legs in that go to the main hoop.
That's just how I would have done it though.... what do I know.... I'm not Tony1.
