I posted here a while ago because im still not sure why my car is overheating. I have a new radiator, new thermostat. The problem is that my car usually starts overheating during street driving. The mystery to me is that if i pull over and turn off the car, then turn it back on again the temp goes back to normal and it runs normal again. Its happened like 3 times already. I havent seen the cooling fan turn on in a while, even with the a/c on and the temp at normal level. The fan does turn on when its directly connected to the battery so the fan motor seems to be working, maybe its a fan sensor not working or an electrical connection?

 

Probably the fan switch. Its right on the thermostat. Have you replaced the radiator cap as well? Bled the system, or replaced the waterpump. How many miles? Good luck.

it has 158K miles. The pump was changed about 20K miles ago. I will try changing the cap, havent tried the fan switch. thanks.. ill try these things.

btw, this doesnt sound like head gaskets right? no gunk on the oil cap and no oil in the coolant reservoir.

 

sounds like a problem i dealt with on a '95 civic EX. your story sounds similar. we found that someone had put the wrong ECU in the car...

 

The thermostat could be sticking too.

 

i have changed the thermo 3 times. Once by a family mechanic, 2nd time by me and finally a repair shop. I dont think 3 ppl could have gotten that wrong. Or i could be wrong. Another thing, i just went to check the car, which is cold and hasnt been run since yesteday, i twisted the radiator cap and it seemed to have a vacuum seal becuas it made a little pop and then i heard fluid draining but nothing fell on the floor. Is this normal? i saw the fan switch i will try to do that tomorrow.

 

Sounds like you need to burp your coolant. Just curious, are you losing any coolant at all?
