Default Overheating problem... HELP...!!!!

Alright, my car was overheating a while back and I couldn't figure out why... The radiator that was in the car had about 175,000 miles on it, but was still intact, no leaks or cracks whatsoever... At the time, the fan was coming on so we started with a water pump, radiator, thermostat, waterneck and radiator cap... Installed all of this, bled the system and the car was fine for about a week...

One night I notice the the temp gauge start to creep... I'm like WTF, so I pull over and pop the hood and the fan is not on... I return to the car check the temp it's just past halfway with the fan off... I turned the car off, unplugged the fan switch and jumped the connector to see if the fan switch was bad.... Sure enough the fan came on, so I replaced the fan switch the next day... Bled the system, and the car ran fine for about another week... Then it started to creep again... I popped the hood, and the fan is coming on, but the temp gauge will still creep to just past halfway... If I rev it and hold the revs to about 2k the gauge will go down and return to normal operating temp...

The highest the temp gauge ever got throughout this whole ordeal is just above halfway... Did I warp the head, is my headgasket blown...? It only overheats now if it sits and idles for about 2-3mins... The temp gauge will begin to creep, and the fan will come on, but the temp stays about halfway or a bit higher... There's no oil the overflow tank, no bubbles, nothing but oil on the dipstick and no leaks or cracks in any of the hoses... It's really frustrating and just wanna get some opinions or see if anyone has gone through some similar... Any help is appreciated... TIA...

on your rad cap
whats the lbs pressure?

that hapened to me b4
cause the stant rad cap reads 12 lbs
so what I did is cut like 1 1/2 round of the coil to
bring the press down
and that fixed my prob..
also check timming..

I had same type of issue with a Hybrid B16A Del sol. Check where the back (of the motor) radiator hose comes out. On the thermostat housing check to make sure there isn't a round 2 wire plug hanging loose. If thats not the issue then make sure there is pressure int he system. If so... well I dunno. Oh and far as warping your block... nah she'll be fine Honda motors have lengendary reliability for a reason!

The cap is an OEM radiator cap, not sure of the pressure it holds... The fan switch is plugged in, but i will check on those hoses from the back of the block... Any more suggestions or opinions are appreciated...

When is the lasttime you got your water pump replaced and the system flushed?
That is usually why they overheat due to bad coolant circulation.

The water pump was replaced when the car first overheated... The motor was already LS/VTEC for about 40,000 miles before this happened... Has anyone ever delt with replacing or having to replace the coolant temp sensor...? If it was going bad, that would cause the guage to read incorrectly right...? It's just weird that it only does it at idle, it goes down if you hold the revs steady, and the fan comes on the but the temp will stay high... Really frustrating... Thanx for all comments and opinions, keep em coming...

just something to look out for there is a screw over by the where the distributor is that acts like a release valve that releases pressure out of the radiator so that your car won't overheat (helms manual) that one thing, another is make sure you use radiator fluid not just water, and third check spark plug to see if there is any radiator fluid in there because that causes over heating to

If you're talkin about the bleeder valve, I don't have one because it's an OBD II motor... We re-filled the radiator twice after replacing all the items and it's a 50/50 mix.. I did a compression test and pulled 275/275/275/250....
I'm beginning to think my overheating problem resides in the headgasket...

Hey Dustin, this might sound like a stupid fix but try replacing the radiator cap. I had a problem with that a while back and replaced the radiator, thermo, and water pump before realizing the cap just wasn't holding pressure very well anymore. Let me know what the turn out is!!

I had this same problem on my DA just a week ago, I replaced the thermostat and it cured it for about 3 weeks.. Then just a bit ago, I came to a complete stop, sat in the intersection for a bit and I notice that my guage went right upto the red mark. I was thinking "What the hell?" the light turned green and I accelerated so I could get to the nearest place to pull over.. But, the temp gauge started going down.. I didn't see any steam come out of the hood or anything, but It went down back to normal.. I got to work about 1-2 mins later and I sat at the gate for a bit till it opened and it climbed right back upto the H.. I popped the hood as fast as I could do see what the hell was going on, steam all in the back near my Intake Manifold, I shut off my car as fast as I could and started looking for leaks.. I saw some leaks in the front of the radiator near the drivers side fan, then I finalkly found water leaking on the bypass hose way, way in the back.. When I got the car, the guy didn't take very good care of it and 172k miles on the radiator and bypass hose... It needs to be changed.. After dumping Distilled water inside the radiator and limping my car home, I tore everything down, radiator, fans, ac ****, the bypass hose was fried... Found the problem, and I looked inside the radiator, full of gunk.. I just ordered a PWR Civic half ... No more over heating problems coming this way !
