GSR Tranny problems.
hey guys, new to honda and i have a few questions....
my tranny blew up the day i got it.
so i bought another one from a friend of a friend who bought it with a motor but never used it (only had need for the motor)
now....it grinds into 3rd anything over 2500rpm give or take and into 4th anything over 4500rpm. reverse also feels sketchy but thats a different thing all together.
is this common for honda tranny;s??
also....i got it for $550cnd......how much is resonable to ask for back?!? i don't want to give it back and pay to have it taken out again (i'd rather drive it till it blows again)

Sorry to say but its common on trannys that have been driven hard. I say you try and get some GM synchromesh friction modified for your tranny. Put that in and see if it gets better. Or some Penzoil Synchromesh from autozone or kragen. If those dont eliminate the problem then that tranny is gonna crap out soon as well..
So your for sure gonna give it back? How long have you had it? If you havent had it for over a week i say at least try and get most of your money back. 500 at that. Tell him What the hell did he do to it? It grinds bad, and that it was driven hard. But do you even want to try the tranny fluid change? I heard it fixes the problem most of the time.

3rd gear grind is common with the honda transmissions. Usually, the synchro gets worn and needs replacement. also, getting the trans in reverse is usually pretty rough as well. As it was mentioned earlier, try the gm synchromesh trans fluid and see if that solves some of the griding issues. If anything, the synchro's will need to be replaced
