Could my ecu be bad? I wired up vtec and it still throws the code.
Wired the knock sensor, oil pressure switch, and the vtec solenoid.

Dude, honestly your not getting any help because people just don’t know where to begin. Like the OBD0 PR3 ecu does not have the needed provisions to properly run a OBD1 P72 (I think, I don’t usually play with B18s) GSR engine.

The Knock sensor code is difficult to fix. I've had that code on my car for almost a year, until i upgraded to obd1...But I had a stage 2 hondata/PR3 obd0.

Are you running dual runners (stock intake manifold)? I wonder if that has something to do with it, running a GSR with a B16 ecu?

Yeah I find it odd too about the gsr engine with obd0 ecu. But hey, my hommies just experimenting. I posted this for a friend so we can get some fresh perspective but I think we can get it to work properly. Honestly I've never heard of running a b16 ecu in a gsr engine but an ecu is a computer with maps of fuel timing and vtec control. I think it might have something to do with the redline on a jdm b16 compared to the b18c's. At this point, it's all on me. Sorry about the confusion, If I run into some more specifics and have questions, I'll be sure to post them here.

You could be right, I'm not sure either at this point.

The thing is, we're trying to figure out if the engine itself is alright, or if it's the wiring. You see, this engine was bought for very very cheap and it was bought from a friend, of a friend, of a friend kind of deal so, other than it being really sketchy, we're trying to figure out if the motor is alright so my friend could either toss it(give it back) or actually pay the guy for the motor. Thus, the questions about throwing a code 23 which is the knock sensor. I'm not sure how a b16 ecu will react to the codes of a b18c engine, but like I said, a fuel map is a fuel map, and vtec is vtec so it should work, and it should actually give it more push. But that's just something we're experimenting with. Personally, I think to find out about the motor running okay and it not having a blown gasket or bent valves(because it is sounding alittle off) I think it would be smart to hook up a gsr ecu, 94+ I believe it is, and test it that way. But anyways... Thanks for looking.

Well a map is not just a map, ie. A map of DC is different than a map of Dallas lol. I just changed engines I went from a stock jdm b16 to a slightly built b16 81.5mm 9:1 pistons. Now mind you I used the same everything, injectors, head, turbo, everything. I thought the tune should be good, right only .5mm wider pistons and lower compression ratio, wrong the engine ran lean. The engine uses the maps constantly to tell the engine how much fuel and what timing to use. You could use a chipped ecu and a rom editor like crome or turboedit (I don’t know much about the obd0 stuff) to scale the maps set the vtec cross over disable the knock sensor you will also need to use something to open the butterflies. Why not convert to obd1? Well that’s just some stuff to think about.
If it was my car I would convert to obd1 and get a p72 or a chipped p28. I would run through the stock harness and make sure I added the right sensors and have them going to the right place.

also run a leakdown or compressoin test.

convert to obd1 (an im not just saying that)
I had a customer running obd0 on a gsr, I swapped to obd1, and hooked up the iab's and he wanted to kiss me, lol

I'm running A PR3 with my GSR. A shop in Stanton, CA did the swap. I wish I knew exactly what they did to the knock sensor, I tried to call but haven't heard from anyone.

It runs really rich and i am preparing to go OBD1. I've got the P72 ECU just need the harness & obd1 Dizzy. Gettin' harness from Rywire.
