got questions, b16 owners w/ tuned Vtec ECU, please come in. thank you
hey b16lovers
thank you for reading my questions first...
i have vtec point dellema....
first let me tell you what i have
b16 w IHE, pnp Imanifold n matching throttlebody,
higher output sprkplugs, wires
vafc
gsr tranny etc..
i know i should go dyno tune this bitch but, just doesnt wanna spend 500usd for dyno time, maybe i will do it aftr i add Cams, retainer, srpings valves.
but for now i just wanna tune the b16 streetway..
i have p30 w/usdm b16a2, seems like vtec shoots in 6k rpm...
i changed vtec point to about 4500rpm since i shift at 4k rpm in daily driving...
it feels solid, i like it at 4.5k rpm bc i can get to vtec in shorter time...
so here is the questions for peeps who twik the ecu
what rpm did set vtec up to trigger..? n why..?
what's ideal vtec point for moded b16..?
thank you so much
ps i have b16 on basic(lightest) 4d ek body that weights just over 2300lb plus more weight reduction(carb hood, stripped rear seats, stripped interier)
still have maneged to keep Cold A/C n P/S lol
what can i say..? driving sleeper is more funn...

you should leave it set at 5500. once your head is upgraded , than you can look at changing VTEC crossover. and theres no way to tell wheres the best point without datalogging/tuning really.
Why do you think that you can just change VTEC engagement point as if it was a song on the radio.. you're dealing with your ECU here, leave it alone.
There is really no point to switching the VTEC x-over with stock cams. Since you arent doing any fuel tuning/ignitiontiming I doubt you will see any gains from it. If I recall correctly a lower VTEC x-over is better suited to a turbo setup and a higher x-over for all motor/bigger cams.
I have a better idea, just wire your VTEC to be on all time, then you wont have to worry about the x-over point.

well first i wouldnt set Vtec differently at all but if u r going to dont move it move then 500rpm back. 5100 is common

5200-5600
the last b16 i tuned I had the x-over at 5200. car had I/H/E and a water/meth injection system, ebay chipped ecu, further tuning was done with a VAFC2
made 176 whp 132 wtq
tried x-over all over the place, as low as 4400 and as high as 6200, 5200 is where this motor made the best hp/tq curves
although if your not dyno'ing you should probably just leave it alone
