B16 VTEC always engaged
Hello everyone i have a buddy who build old school mini's and puts a B16 in them. He called me today asking for answers and i didnt really have a specific one to give him.
Its a mini with a B16 tuned on a P06 ecu.
He says vtec is always engaged no matter what rpm he is at. I said i help him and try to figure it out.
Only thoughts i had were wiring is wrong. ECU is ******* up or vtec solenoid is bad. I have an extra P28 and P72 ecu i was gonna hook up and see if it helps but not to sure what to try after that so any ideas and opinions are welcomed. When i get to the car on wednesday i will get more info. But for now that is alli have. If you need to know more please let me know and i will get it for you.
Thanks Jayden

he might think its on all the time because engine is running hella rich or lean
or timing is incorrect or some other issues.
i dont think he knows whats goin on.
vtec needs oil pressure to engage the rocker.
and 15-30 psi in low rp, aint gonna be enough to lock vtec rocker.
he cant possibly be in vtec even if he wanted to. unless all rockers just seized suddenly
or he has the ferrera vtec roller rockers or something.

No you can lock VTEC in with a normal rocker setup, but I'm sure VTEC just isn't engaging so just thinks its on all .the time....so yeah unplug it and see what happens
If nothing changes after unplugging the solenoid and you suspect vtec is still staying engaged, pop off the valve cover and push down on the vtec rocker/LMA to verify the rockers are not locked together.
The middle rocker should be able to move independently of the others. If it doesnt, verify the rocker arm pins are all installed correctly/not binding...

I am just saying what he told me. I know it sounds crazy i thought so too. I have been working on hondas for around 7 years and never heard anything of this before. Only that vtec doesnt engage. So thats why i came asking questions. And when i get to the car on thursday i will try all that you all have said.
