Default Vtec Adjustment

I have a b16 in my 91 GS and the guy who I bought it from somehow set the vtec to engage at 4200, this is to low. Ive been told that vtec robs torque on the low end. Is there a way to adjust it higher, say 5500. Can I do this manually or do I need a controller.

the ecu is not chipped. Also ive looked at a few vtec controllers, The Vcon by buddy club (cheap route) and the vafc from APEXi. does anyone know if the vcon is any good and could a non profeccional wire it up themselves.

well if your looking into "only" adjusting your vtec...then just go with the buddy club vconn. also the vconn is user's friendly..by the twist of the **** you can easily adjust your vtec engagnement as oppose to the apexi which requires more technical adjustments which is a bit more complicated.

i dont see how your vtec x-over can be that low if you're using a stock ecu. it has to be chipped or you're using the wrong one.
