Default Will this cause my cf hood to crack?

I'm about to install mugen hood pins on my cf hood. Just want to make sure I do it right. I searched and read in one of the threads that if you use the screws for the top part of the hood pins (the 3 or so on each side) it will cause the hood to spiderweb crack. Is this true? That same post said to use rivets. What is, in fact, the correct way to do it?

When I bought my CF hood (used from a really good guy here on HT), it was already predrilled for Sparco pins. The peice that was connected to the face of the hood was riveted in. There wasn't any cracking around it at all. The condition of the hood was mint.

I think the process of screwing in the screw causes the clear to spiderweb.

Don't really know any other way of putting in rivets.

Put either masking tape or duct tape over the area you want to work on, that will help pervent any cracks or spiderwebbing. (Ducttape is just harder to clean)

I'd cover the hood in tape where you're going to drill, use a unibit, and go slowly. Shouldn't be a problem if you take your time.

alright thanks, i hadn't thought about tape. Just used the tape idea for my sidemarkers, don't know why i didnt think about it for the hood pins.

Use a nice drill bit; one that isn't dull.

For drilling, i would say<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by sxecrow &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I'd cover the hood in tape where you're going to drill, use a unibit, and go slowly. when you install pins or whatever, washers will help you distrubute the pressure to avoid cracking the hood

When I got my mugen hood pins installed the guy used a drill bit thats specially used for carbon fiber so prevent it from cracking. All i know is that it worked.

He used a regular DeWalt drill like the one in the pic. Dont know what the bit was. Sorry
