Yeah man. Get a drill and a few extra bits (You'll go through a couple) and get to drilling.

as long as you have a drill press and a brake rotor, then yes you can

A drill press is your friend and a brake lathe capable of machining cross drilled rotors after your done to get a flat surface after your done drilling.
If you have an old cross drilled rotor as a template it can help.
Drill your first hole and then change bit and coutersink with a larger bit.
I find that most cross drilled crack at the holes.
I don't recommend this just putting my 2 cents in.

I actually made my own slotted rotors however, i drew the rotor in cad first added my curves printed it out, cut out the template and glued it to the rotor with a glue stick. I then used my dremel/cutoff wheel to cut the arcs following the template. I used a mircometer to get the depth right i only went in 1.5mm and then put them on the brake lathe to clear the edge created by the cut.
Ran them on the street for 2 years no prob. Cars probably still running around somewhere with them on.

I’m a big fan of DIY, but I don’t think I would drill my rotors, besides I’ve read strong arguments that suggest drilled and slotted rotors are a waste of money. If you want to stop better get better pads, if you want to look cool get some drill bits lol.

Do you think there is a magic wand that makes holes just appear in the rotor????? you start with a normal blank rotor and after you have you pattern marked you drill holes, why in the world does this seem so ludicrous to you??? I have seen it done professionally quite a bit. Not too mention that it's no different that the way it's done w/ big name manufacturers. I know all about the big "x-drilled rotor debate" that for ever plagues the world of car guys. but typically X-drilled rotors with the use of upgraded pads work excellent for normal to aggressive street use. It's heavy heavy racing that tends to make the X-drilled rotors crack, you pretty much never put them through that much abuse on the street. The purpose of the holes of course is to help vent the heat which helps reduce brake fade........hence better stopping.

I actually have a buddy that cross-drills his own rotors and he has NEVER had a problem in the 15 years he's been doing it.........there is no better teacher than experience

ya.. well im sure this person has no clue how to do this himself.. so he will probably drill the holes too close together and they will crack.. why would you want to risk you life for holes in your damn rotors.. and im sure if you used stock rotors to drill holes into they would crack because there too thin. just dont do it. its not worth it. unless you doing track races its not worth it at all. get some good pads and thats all you'll ever need. or buy slotted rotors.

Very well put, even though I am anti X drilled.

Our pads don't gas up like they did in the 70s or so, no reason to drill on my side of the coin.

Even on high dollar cars Porshce admits it's to look cool, and has had cracking issues.

yes, you can. But you need to make sure of the proper spacing, hole diameter and the position of the holes as not to drill into the internal cooling fins. If you do not place them properly they will definitely crack, warp, and be out of balance. If your going high speeds, believe it or not, it will tear the crap out of you wheel bearings. Your better off buying a set of Brembo's. Be safe first. You dont want them to fail and you end up hitting someone and seriously hurting them. Not worth it for the price you may have to pay later.

yes you can... here's how:

remove your rotors
place them on a solid table (so it's at least high enough so you don't have to bend over).

grab a big hammer.
grab a sturdy, 1" in diameter awl/punch

then, WHACK A MOLE! er... hole.

Why would you bother. Blanks offer more surface area.

Unless you are road racing or doing extreme high speed slow downs you do not need the capability of added cooling surface. Even then.

I have cross drilled on my car. Why, cause it was 30$ a rotor, that's why. The blanks were 38$ a rotor. I got them on sale. Only reason I went with them.

I too have very inexpensive X-drilled rotors on my rex, and they look really cool too

Exactly. The companies who drill their rotors have access to data, tools, and knowledge the average garage nut doesn't. I would say with something as important as brakes, either get good blanks or factory crossdrilled if you really want them.
