Default 5000 rpm bog

5000 rpm bog, happened right as the gas light came on today.

i had been driving pretty spiritedly for about 45 minutes in the mountains and basically got in it exiting a corner and the frond end just dropped and it sounded like i was hitting a rev limiter. i basically let off and tried to repeat it but all was well.

not a big deal because it only happened once and everything is normal now but it would be nice to know what happened.

my thinking is that vtec cut out due to low gas? i know that it does not switchover when under certain circumstances like low oil, cold start, etc.

and while on topic, do the short intake plenum runners always open at 5700 rpm under all conditions?

If you were really low on gas, you could have sucked air. If youre cornering hard, your tank will slosh. Thats why race tanks and fuel cells have baffles and traps.

i went on a spirited run again today and got more rev limiter action, but this time with a full tank of gas. it did it quite a few times while going in a straight line!

after this, the car felt very sluggish even when the limiter went away.

Hey I the same issue a long time ago with my Integra, it would seem sluggish and espicially in the high RPM's. You might have a clogged catalytic-coverter, once I checked it and found out it was broken apart it was clogging exhaust. Hope this helps.

sluggish isnt the word i would use to describe what is happening since i can even get to high rpms when this happens.

i do scrape my cat a lot so maybe thats it? im getting custom exhaust soon anyways.
