Default GSR sputtering around 4500-5000 rpm -- Please help..

So I just bought this car... it's a 97 GSR Sedan.. and it has the following mods on it... Intake, DC headers, catback exhaust, skunk2 int manifold, obd1 injectors (dunno why), and 250 LPH fuel pump... Anyways.. the car runs good just basic driving and if you get on it hard it runs fine.. Vtec kicks in at 4500.. which I know is too low since I have the skunk2 mani, but if you run it hard... it runs strong once it passes 5500 rpm... with no problems.. if I lightly accellerate.. and it goes around 4800-5200.. the motor sputters real bad..???? It's weird because it only does it if I'm light on the throttle.. No check engine lights or anything.. It doesn't not do it if the car is in nuetral and reved up that high.. just while its under a load. I've changed ecu's and even tried a obd1 chipped ecu using the harness.. and it did it a lot worse with that ecu.

I'm open to all suggestions.. Thanks for your time..

I think it has something to do with your skunk2 manifold since it does not have secondary butterflys on it.Do a search on manifolds and youll get more info.

I agree to an extent with what standinghollow said, but it is not necessarily the entire story here. True, when I have my P72 ecu in the car mine does this also. When I put my P28 in there, it goes away. The P28 has the vtec crossover at 5300. I also notice this in my buddies ITR, as he has his crossover at 4400 also. The sputtering IMO is because you/we are hanging around the crossover too long during light/steady throttle and we are dropping in and out of vtec until we are well above the crossover point.

If I am wrong, please say so........... but in anycase it is nothing to worry about.
